Small caliber bullets really aren't as devastating as you, or TV would have you think. They'll still kill you but there isn't always an exit wound. As with most things, its what's on the inside that counts.

This came up a bit in Charleston with the Michael Slager/Walter Scott case. Slager, the cop, unloaded on Scott and hit him like 8 times but you couldn't tell he was hit until he fell.

The entrance wound could vary significantly based on the bullet.

Last, the guy was pretty fat. I've seen this while hunting pigs. They have a large layer of fat that is more or less their armor. This pig was hit a couple times with a 556 and ran off. It took some tracking and a couple more bullets to kill the pig. When we were cleaning it we didn't find the original shots until much later when the pig was all cleaned up. The entrance holes closed right up from the blubber. Not saying this is what happened but it may be a good explanation/theory.

Agreed... It looked super suspect. It was like a guy got shot in a movie... In real life you don't just fall down and die.
