Kechele spider cracks

Brians a great guy. buy almost all my stuff from him. Quality is quality. Building your own boards opens your mind up for when you know what you want you can have a great shaper shape you something that is specifically for you.

I have a 7'0 funshape i bought down in Ocean Isle Nc. Must be 5-6 years old now. Few dings and things i have had to repair but no spider cracks/delams. Deck looks bumpy but i am heavy footed. My craptastic canyon 6'3 fish is already junk after a year. made in china. spider cracks all over the tail. rediculous. i will never buy anything like that again.

Started shaping my own boards. epoxy is well worth the investment. no dings. no spider cracks.

Buying local is good when you know what you want. when i get good enough ill order a coil. but until then my boards will do just fine.

ive always wanted to have my own shop. carrying only products i know work and last.

Wish I could go but I'll be working . I love alternative shapes and that is mainly what I am interested in shaping so AB3east sounds like a great time.

I glassed my first dozen or so boards with poly resin and never got over the feeling of being super rushed. In hot weather, work times were as short as 15-18 minutes. Never had any real disasters but being rushed shows up in the final product mostly with tiny bubbles near the lap lines, fin boxes, and tail hard edges.

My last several boards have been poly foam glassed with epoxy resin. I'm not really a fan of EPS foam although i have shaped a few and have two EPS board right now that i actually like riding. I'm finding that i get 30-35 minutes of work time using the fast cure epoxy and the glassing the boards has become fun...and relaxing...even to the point of knocking back a cold one while glassing just to keep it real.

I feel like the difference in price between poly and epoxy resin is really pretty trivial...$35/gallon for poly vs $65/gallon for epoxy and you can easily glass two shortboards with a gallon. Plus the new resin research epoxy resin is blue so it even looks cool like poly.

Your not forgeting me on the blank are you . Just finishing up my sons fish and finally ready to start my next board after a long tough business season.

 

i love the Ice9 blanks and using the bamboo cloth. Less hassle. I have only used the RR blue and love it. I have two board waiting on me to try vac bagging skins. my favorite board is my 6'8 semi gun. thing hauls when it gets big. Eps/bamboo/RR Epoxy

 

Plan to be back with the blanks next friday.

out of curiousity...what do you mean by less hassle...less than what?

 

I recently heard some terrible reviews of Ice 9 blanks, super soft, easily scuffed and dented before and after glassing.
