That's too bad. Just north of your secret inlet spot. Kid seems to be taking it well. Worse though, is that Flo will be posting here shortly spewing nonsense about how her grand pappy was the first man bitten by a shark in Florida or some such crap.
Oh yes, that has been well established. Sorry aboot pre-polluting your tread with Flo crap. It's just the way it is around here right now.
To stay on topic, that sucks but yes another ocean dog attack. Was the shark euthanized for said act? Someone could have been kilt and someone should be held accountable. No justice, no peace!
I like the way he just walked home and said "Don't freak out Mom." 42 stitches, Yeesh! Bet he'll be back out in a few weeks.
i have a buddy that gets stationed out @ Ft Pierce. Heard they get some waves and may be one of the few places the last time i checked that are getting some New Years waves. Hopefully, i'll be able to ride down there next year. But yea, those FL kids that are bitten always end the interview - "I'll be back out asap" - must be some rite of passage down there, just like killing some super snake and strapping on your FL tailor/butcher made boots
no kidding,,those things are late 80's early 90s throwbacks,,,too much color and Loud may be the reason he attracted the shark in first place mute colors dark greens, deep blues black, greys less patterns is en fuego
Actually, in the marine world, bright colors are often the colors of "Beware, I am poison". However, silver flashy things resemble sides if fishes and attract predators. Barracudas do eat colorful reef fish, and end up being somewhat inedible when larger and older. They will give "ciguatera" poisoning to those that eat them; ciguatera is the accumulation of poison.....
My wife and I did a private fishing charter down in the West Indies a while back and had the boat to our self. The crew was awesome and they made sure my beer was never empty, this started at sunrise lol. We caught so many barracudas it was ridiculous. We ended up letting the crew keep them and they said they would probably end up giving them away because they were tired of getting sick off them. The capt. said that they are very tasty fish but they eat a certain type of algae down there or w/e and become poisonous like you said. He said that it's a roll of the dice, sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you get deathly ill. So he said he gave it up. Won't eat it now.
A friend of mine used to have a place in the keys and would fish all the time frequently catching barracuda. He would keep them to eat. When I asked him about this problem with cudas he said he'd only keep the healthy looking ones and toss the scraggly ones back. Can't vouch for this screening method as I don't care much for seafood but he claimed he never got ill.
i didnt even see youre post at first and then read dsups post and the first thing i thought about when he said barracuda was ciguatera.. was about to say i hope they had fun getting sick as fk.
