Regardless of the great swells we get and memorable moments what's everyone doing for the apex of the season? I'm planning on making a trip back up to NC in February/March for some actual powder. Not saying I'm tired of surfing but it's always a good changeup.

I managed to get up to beech mountain before Christmas but there wasn't any natural snow remaining and the trails were limited. Obviously this'll change as winter moves into full force.

Snowshoe, WV is also an option, which I've been to and thoroughly enjoyed.

Training for a couple of half marathons in Feb and possibly March. One in Williamsburg, the other in the Richmond area. Plan to run with two sons and my brother.

Winter?? You call what you have "winter"??
We surf during winter. 6/5 wetsuits in 15*F air temps and 35*F water temps, with strong winds.
THAT is winter. We are hard core.
We are also morons for doing so!!!
    hahahahaha!!

I admire your fortitude, BC. But perhaps a bit of a nut paddling out in those conditions. Your blood must be thick like maple syrup. ;)

Yup-- it is crazy. The surf has to be REAL REAL good for me now to go out in those conditions. It is nutty for sure. As I said we be morons to do so. But it is a challenge for the mind as well as the body..
I now am relinquishing the extreme severe conditions. Air temps higher than 25*F, with no or little wind is as cold as I am going out now. Water temps don't matter; wetsuit takes care of that. What with "global warming", that is easy!!!!

That sounds pretty sweet! I'm not much for running but I'd do a walking marathon. I figure it would take me about 8 or 9 hours of walking time and I'd probably have to take a break for food.

I got a week off in February, probably will just stick around Jersey. A trip to North Carolina or something would be cool. My buddies go to Hawaii (the big island) for a week every year in January/February, then from there they fly to PR and spend 2-3 weeks in Rincon. One of those guys lives on the big island. The other guys live in Jersey and own a business, so they could spend some time away. I've been invited on this trip before but have yet to go. Really butt hurt about it haha.

We're also multi-talented. Like the old "Mary Ann Barns" song: We can "swim, fish, fight, f*ck, fly a plane, and drive a truck..."

I just want to surf this winter. Maybe it's just because iv been busy but i feel like there hadn't been any waves this winter. Of course there has been, but not many. Maybe I'm just missing them. Regardless, i want waves. That's all

What exactly would be the surfing equivalent of a marathon? 26 hours in Arctic conditions? Or 26 hours in shark infested waters? 26 hours in epic conditions somewhere in the tropics or Indonesia or some ****? Haha.

You are correct--proper equipment does the trick.
I still am in the habit of changing OUT of my wetsuit standing by the car. As soon as the suit comes off I douse myself with hot water giving me 3-4 minutes of warmth and time to dry off and put me clothing on. It is a mental challenge to do that; my friends say I am whacked. They are wimpy morons with small peepees and zero balls- they go home and change in a hot shower.

I do the same but minus the hot water. I just change. Except for those really brutal days, the ones where i start getting ice in my beard or the parking lot has a few feet of snow. Even then I'll sometimes just change.

I got this thing called a dryrobe. It works wonders. It's basically a huge poncho lined with wool. Big enough to change out of your wetsuit with it on. Plus it drys you off quick. It doesn't leave my truck in winter

Fumble with keys and doorhandle for 15 minutes. Start the car, towel down on passenger seat, plop down into passenger seat in the wetsuit for 15 minutes and shiver. Smoke dope until additionally numb. Once the heat starts going scurry around the side rip the wetsuit off while unleashing a string of frozen curses. Hop back into freshly warmed car. Grab your scattered surf equipment once properly gloved and hated. Drive off.

Its gonna be 81 here in fl today no surf but we have had some fair surf as of late., I'm still in my spring suite and it's nice ! I don't know if I could wear that much gear like you northern brothers and still have a good time. I know it;s all about what you get used to but $hit Ice on your beard ?

This makes me wonder why you guys live up there with so many better ,warmer and happier places to be? I know we all gotta be somewhere but $hit , snow on the ground in the parking lot?
