Solo session in central monmouth this morning, imo a little bigger than surfline reported and glassy with almost no wind. Mostly in the chest high range but I thought there were definitely a few head high set waves that came through. Pretty steep and a lot of borderline closeouts, especially when I first paddled out just after low tide. Objectively speaking a terrible session as I am continuing with trying to transition to a shorter board than I'm used to, so my waves were basically a mix of eating sh*t without getting to my feet and getting up but way too far back on the tail and losing the wave. Oh well, this is an expected part of the process. Starting to figure out how to duck dive at least, so I'll count that as a win. Beautiful sunrise and wasn't too cold during the session or the change out afterwards, so no complaints at all. Hoping this swell hangs around for a couple more days as forecast.
Nice pics, really. But, no offense, I prefer the "scantily clad" thread for pics. I am sure you do understand......
So, I finally get out for a nice session, but not that long, 90 minutes, waves 3-4 feet, waist shoulder, and air temps 40 degrees. Got me exercise, and had a few good waves. I will sleep well tonite. 66 years of age on 17th Feb, and I still am getting out in winter. Time for a beer!!!!
I remember Jeff Hakman at Sunset with the photo saying he was 26 years old- at that time I was blown away that someone that old is still surfing (especially at that level..) 17th Feb INSPIRATIONAL
Just got back from a week in Central Fla in which the onshores never dropped below 15 miles/hour. Plenty of swell, warm water, straight onshore slop the entire time. Really fun trip with the wife...just surf didnt cooperate. First day back, my local is glassy and firing. Home sweet home. Just cold.
Sorry Mitchell, I can't resist. Had to include a pic from a few days ago. This is what a 3'-4' SSW swell at 18 second intervals does at my local. East winds at 10-12 knots. Thanks Mitchell, your pics remind me of what I miss about your neck o' the woods. Please keep them coming.
Belmar was almost perfection this evening. Chest to occasional shoulder to occasional head sets in the mix. Got funky with the* tide by sun down but great fun. All left handers and I was eating that ish. right up. Lots of long fast pumping rides and smacking lips and stuff. Split a peak with a dude who knew what he was doing and three other kooks who weren't much of a bother. Good vibes out there. Water is getting cold but I'll take 50 degree air temps all day.... Sat looks like a fun grovel and lb day and next week might be good for us. Standby.
****in' A Barry, I never thought you'd end up being my hero, but there it is. I hope I'm still charging at 66. Stuck at work all day today, and it looked like the day of the month in Rhode Island on the cams. I was watching the new Point Judith North cam on Surfline while I ate my lunch...waist-chest, no wind, flawless A-frames with one dude out just ****ing scoring the place to himself. Good for you bro...I was living through you today, whoever you are. Damn it looked so good, and there was just no way I could get out there.
When were you here? It was fun the last 7 days. Not as good as those pics but some decent waves. Wind was calm or light offshore a few mornings. Some onshore mixed in but it was under 15 mph for sure and very manageable. Where abouts in CFL were you?
This was Ocean City Maryland. I was out waiting for Mitchell but got cold (only an hour in, I need a new suit). When I was walking back he was just finished suiting up but ended up going more uptown with another friend to get these waves. I was on the south side of a hump in that beach and it was too steep an angle, these pictures were on a more north facing stretch and by the pictures I realize I was in the wrong spot. Oh sorry, I misread your question. Well some useless local wave knowledge for you.
Glad you made out in Belmar today! I checked some of the cams while I was taking a break at work, all I could do was shake my head. Of course yesterday though, I was off and there was nothing going on at all in Monmouth haha. I knew when I looked at the forecast yesterday. And of course, Saturday looks great, then on my off day on Sunday, it doesn't look too promising. Don't look much better in locations south of me either. Would be open to taking a drive down the Parkway for something better. Have a few days off at the end of next week though!
