Instead of hating on dudes who do step offs, I say we talk about stuff that's fun to talk about around campfires and sh!t. Raven and Colin charged for sure during Sandy, hella props, but I still think there were bigger waves ridden on the East side. Must post pics/vids something to back up claims. And I know, my brethren in Fla, Pumphouse went off it's nut during Sandy. Too big for me, but still not the biggest. My vote is this, NY's own Will Skudin offshore in New England. Show me someone riding something bigger, but until then, biggest wave ever capture on film on our side. Same spot, different swell...
seldom might have it, I always thought this was the winner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdG9Vlus--k 3:27 mark of the video
This might be the only swell that comes close SS. The dudes in it were talking about how on the "big" day it was breaking miles off of Melbourne beach. I'm sure there were waves that day that rivaled just about any swell on the EC.
He's a pretty solid paddle wave. Definitely the biggest day I've had in NY... I was out there and it was fu*king huge. Solid DOH + with a 5mil is no joke... St. Patty's 07.
Can't open nynj's...curious though. SS, that pic of Skudin is one of the biggest I have ever seen on the EC. I think some of the large meaty lefts at pumphouse and south Florida are an interesting comparison b/c so much water with long heavy lines. Skudin's wave seems like a slow peak that just kind folds over (the second pic acutally looks sick)
definitely a solid freaking wave man. It's a tough call, but I think skudin's is bigger in size by... I would say 3-5 feet. The difference is that pit in yours versus the big open shoulder...open ocean versus beach break. I have never seen that pic. You catch any good ones that day/ I surfed a day in Rodanthe 7-8 years ago and it was like that but rights (maybe not quite as big). I caught two waves...biggest waves I have caught on EC were those...and they were heavy like that. Got really worked on the second one. Any who thanks for sharing
For sure Skudins was bigger... But they were towing so it's a bit different. Not taking anything from Will, he focking charges and he's a good dude... That's his boy in the pick too, Sean Killarney. Yeah I got a couple of sick ones that day. But I didn't paddle out at that spot.. I watched Sean and Balaram (who was probably 15) paddle and Bal got negged and didn't make it out. Sean got out after probably 20 minutes of paddling. We ended up going a bit west and got it a little more manageable. Got 2 bombs and then got crushed paddling back out. Took 5 on the head, turned around and called it a day. But definitely the biggest EC I've ever been out in
Indian River was massive (but a mess) during the peak of Hermine, before it cleaned up. Might have been Labor Day itself I think. Def not the biggest on the EC, but there were some serious ledges out there and the current wanted to take you down to OCMD. First time I've been legit concerned about paddling in.
biggest wave I ever seen on the eastcoast was on the surf movie "surf nrg volume 12" the hobgoods, kechele, and a few other Floridians tow into reef road.they were calling it east coast chopooo.no joke waves were atleast 30 ft by my standards, some might argue 40 or bigger..got to watch it they got no footage of it online.i have the dvd but havnt located it in probably 9 yrs the bottom right is that reef road sesh if u can see it
hurricane bill. pt. judith. 95 or somewhere near there. at least 200'. paddled out at bonnets cove for some 125'ers
Belmar on any given day... ...Tube city Tow ins and steps offs only Btw nice save seldom why to pull us all back in. That pic is unbelievable
This has been done...for 28 pages. The same pic emerged on page 28 the last time around http://www.swellinfo.com/forum/showthread.php?3811-Biggest-East-Coast-Wave/page28
