Drinking is not ok or socially acceptable. We as Surfers need to band together and take on drug and alcohol abuse. Step 1, stop drinking. Step 2, don't drink. Step 3, never drink again.

You may wish to consider rephrasing the thread title to match your topic sentence.

Alcohol ruins lives. There is so much talent and the biggest obstacle for most surfers knowingly or not, is drugs and alcohol. It's time to make drinking socially unexceptable because it is ( Surfers should make the first move )

    Perhaps you should address hydration.

That does not make sense. Drinking alcohol dehydrates the body, which is not good at all.

Seriously SloFlo we are not doing enough about it. Remember as Surfers we occupy the higher ground because our sport is superior; it's obvious! With that highground comes great responsibility; responsibility we should be responsible with! And drinking is a known evil

I think drinking is on the same level as meth, coke, herion, zanex, suboxone, adderall, klonopin, lsd, mdma, freon, Nitrogen, bath salts no matter which way you toss it up you're a crackhead to me. Sober Surf Life

Surfers are more at risk on land than at sea

Each are unique, affecting each user differently, for a variety of reasons. I do agree it is best for the body and soul to completely avoid them. I feel the same way about alcohol:

It seems to me that surfers are the last people on the planet who will take this kind of advice. We seem to be made to learn things the hard way by paddling out there and going for it. God knows that's how I've learned my lessons. And yes, I have given up all the recreational substances liquid or otherwise and go to inspirational meetings instead...(see above, lessons learned the hard way LOL.) If you are really enjoying a sober life, then what difference does it make what anyone else is doing? That's their business. If their drinking and drugging is that bad then it will eventually take them away from everything they love, including surfing. There are places to go to get cleaned up and happy where you don't get preached at, we laugh our asses off and quite a few of us surf.

That's a good one. I have a drinking problem and it was the worst decision I ever made (first beer) but don't like it when people point it out (family). I know they mean well yada yada ..where I put that beer?
