So. This is just one response from a person that attempted to lead members of Swell Info away from the political cesspool? Didn't you say that the goal of Turk182 was that politics had no part on this forum? And didn't you say that the power of Turk182 was that political affiliation didn't matter? Your posts here prove otherwise. In all reality, you are a mirror image of SloFlo. A hypocrite. All bets are now officially off. I am no longer Turk182.
Wayyyy to far bruh. And to top it off, you said or did nothing to those who espoused your ideals. You are complicit with your silence. Meanwhile, I've done my level best to get everybody else to tone down the political rhetoric, including myself. I'm disappointed to say the least.
Here's my .02 cents on the idea of a new "community".... Maybe not a bad idea in that certain members will be able to freely discuss politics and non-surf topics without interference from members who don't share the same sentiments. However, I was part of a forum where a certain segment of members (one in particular) whom thought along these same lines. At the time, I believed that it was extremely "elitist" in that it effectively shut out differing opinions and ideas. They believed that such a community allowed them the "freedom" to discuss certain topics without negative comments from others. Since the administrators were firmly of the opinion that such a community would be "good for the forum", they went ahead with it. That site is dead now. Sound familiar? Let's face it, buoys: the reason that SI has been so much "fun" is because any topic brought up here would be sure to garner dozens of colorful and unabashed responses. Nobody wants to be censored. That's the kind of crap that happens in other countries, not the good ol' US of A. OTOH, ragging on somebody because of their choices of wetsuits, boards or surf trunks is one thing. Lambasting political choices is on a completely different level. And you must admit that this last election has been one of the most divisive in American history. There's nothing more fun than making fun of the guy who doesn't swim, or gets his sh1t thrown in the water. Good stuff, right? But the political stuff totally got out of hand here. For God's sake, we had professional trolls posting in support of their candidates. That kind of crap has no place here. Save that sh1t for Reddit or USAToday or WaPost or NYT or Breitbart. But opening up another community that's exclusive of others is, IMHO, probably not a good option for the health of this forum.
Fair points, but for the record, We The People encourages debate and disagreeing with one another is absolutely allowed. Freedom of speech covers that. And it's open to all who respect the 1 rule.
I want to clarify one more thing. This is not to replace the public forum, which I still enjoy and plan on still participating in. This is just one more layer of discussion on the forum. Posting in one spot doesn't replace the other.
+1 Great call, DP. And everyone can see who is getting upset by this: the fascist lefties who need to put their boots on free speech.
Thanks duder. 14 Members and counting. Anybody who wants to join but hasn't received an invite from me yet, just shoot me a PM. I'm a little slow getting to everybody as I remember them. Nothing personal.
I am in! Carry a pocket Constitution everywhere I go. Discourse is the root of all problem solving! Shaming, yelling, violence are examples of tyranny. We must be able to talk, disagree, agree and debate. The answers lie within the middle! Differences should be welcome to any discussion. If everyone agrees then there would be no reason to discuss.
