Never mind the boarts that you'll use to surf Pipe.....and Indo....yeah, ok....in your mind.

We're talkin' the ultimate quiver of boarts that you would see as perfect for how & where you surf.

    So!

Post up your dream boarts for where you surf; you don't have to give deets as to the exact break but if you surf VB or left coast or Hatteras or OCMD or TPTSNBN or IRI or the dirty Jerz or Rhody or frozen chosen (Barry) or the friggin Great Lakes.....that might help in understanding your boart picks. It might well be the stick you have underfoot.

I can see this exercise being cause for pause for only one surfer: Mitchell.
Because he surfs all sticks so well. Just sayin'.

And, remember.....money is no object in the fantasy gig

I'd like to try a Hess Box.
And a Takayama Scorpion and ITP
I've never ridden a Bonzer. Would like to take a 7'2 beaked nose, russ short out at a point sometime.
That Gallery Alt shape always looked like fun.

Other than that, I got it covered.

I should really sell some boards...
    What's on your list Yank?

*i forgot, a hynson red tail and a hobie Phil Edward's are on my short list too

^^^ I really want to try out a scorpion too. They look super fun.

Wynn retro twin fish, glass on wooden keels, gloss coat and a blue or acid splash color.
This guy knows how to make these.
    IMG_2969.jpg

A lovelace fish would do the trick too...say what you want but this colorway looks dope

    IMG_2898.jpg

9'6" Bing Levitator - friend just got one. It's not fair
    IMG_2970.jpg

And I'm sure I have plenty more in my dream quiv but those are on my list. I'd definitely like to shape one of my own sticks one of these days. I just don't have the place to do it yet.

Cool thread Yank! I have most of my local conditions covered with my 5 bort quiver that includes a custom shaped Orion 9' HPLB, by Greg Geiselman. Single fin only, I went with a Greenough 4-A which compliments the rounded pin tail that is nicely foiled for high performance. It can handle the big days and steep drops with the rocker it has, but is also my log in the smallest of conditions. She nose rides, turns with ease, and can be taken vertical and bounced off the lip. It's so versitile it could be a one board quiver if I had to choose one. Being in FL it's a staple in my quiver.

If I want to ride a LB but want to go lighter and a tad shorter I will go with my 8'1" McTavish 8 Ball, which is also setup as a single, I went with the FCS Dolphin which is similar to the Greenough 4-A. This bort performs very well if pushed in bigger surf and is a wave catching machine for smaller days too.

My largest SB is a hand shaped 6'10" WRV FunFish by Mike Daniel. Currently being repaired and should be back in the water next week. This bort is a bloated Fish / HPSB hybrid with some added length, bottom has a double concave and a nicely foiled nose and tail rocker with pulled in swallow tail. Most of the extra foam is under chest for easy paddling and helps catching mushy waves but the shape allows for getting radical in good conditions. Another bort perfect for FL.

Next, I have a custom 6'4" Coil Flashback Fish, by Mike Daniel. This bort is a Fish / HPSB hybrid, it has a flat bottom with V out the back. Good amount of foam under chest but all business in back with a nicely foiled swallow tail. It's built to deal with small mushy conditions, waist high usually being the minimum, but it can and has been pushed in OH - DOH conditions.

Last, I have a custom 6' Coil M-80, by Mike Daniel. This bort is my dedicated HPSB, round tail, single concave, built to handle the best of conditions around here. It's the smallest bort I have ridden and has seen well OH conditions. At my skill level I really don't need anything else.

I also want a Coil Megamind, maybe in 5'10" or shorter range, depending on what Mike suggests. It's a wide and thick small wave bort with performance in mind and would be my alternative to the LB for those type of conditions where I feel like still riding a SB. I'm not a fan of the mini Simmons shape, although highly popular, I prefer one of these instead. They can also be pushed in good surf too. This might be my next purchase.

Other than that I can only see adding a mini-gun or gun for the largest of days that I will paddle out in.

If I see something I want I go out to the shed and whittle it out. I need to start parting with boards. At last count there were 32 boards in my house. Out of room.

Would love to be able to enhance some of the smaller long line days (away from the pack) and get an early start on those infrequent offshore shoal days- when paddling isn't an issue I'm sure my favorite board would change!!

Iv actually put allot of thought and money into my quiver the past year and a half- two years. Finally got to the point where i know what i like and got the boards shaped.

Daily SB is a 5'8 x 19 somthing. Fuller nose. Pulled in tail. Similar to a hypto. Single concave with vee out the tail. Low rocker

The step up is the same board just beefier. 6'1 x 20. Kept the rails fuller.

Just got a mini sims shaped which i love. 5'2 x 22. Same bottom as the first two boards.

Those 3 were the ones i put thought into and got shaped to get the most out of my quiver. Essentially i made myself a modernized 3 board SB quiver. All are 5 fin set ups. Ride the first two as thrusters though and the mini as a quad. But the option to play around is there.

Rest of my boards are all novelty or specialized for certain set of conditions.

9'0 all rounder LB. Nothing special. Just an average LB. Would like to get a new one shaped that's slimmed out a bit.

6'3 single fin. Sort of a fishy shape. But with a rounded pin. It was actually the starting point i used for the 5'8 and 6'1.

6'6 shelter bonzer. A bit big for me. But on those big days with lots of face and a bit fat the thing is a absolute blast.

A 6'4 HPSB from the 90s. Super slimmed out. Super thin. I use it as a back up step up.

My first board is a 6'6 cannibal. Don't ride it. Just hold on to it for the memories.

Between all those boards i have any conditions covered, by at least two boards, depending on the mood and how i feel like approaching the wave on any given day.

Final additions I'd like to make are a fish. A bonzer that's more my size for bigger steeper days. And a custom LB to replace the one i have, geared towards how i like to surf a LB.

My quiver, which I posted last year. Still the same, except I bought a G&S Egg for New England waters.
Maybe not a "dream quiver" ,but good enough for me......

Man, those are good posts ^^

    Like the quiver pic Barry.

Gaff, I have a sneaking suspicion that your garage is starting to resemble Bird's Surf Shed. First time I strolled in there, I literally froze, gaping in wonder. Stayed for hours. Bird's a cool guy to talk with & he's still full of stoke - - will discuss boarts until the Martians have landed.

If I ever figure out how to post a photo on here, I'll get some pics of my boarts for y'all to see.

    Current faves:
9'6 Augie WIR - - great wave-catching boart for lotta conditions, takes a bit of muscle to get underway & then it's a beast on the wave
9'2 CI Classic - - Clark blank, faster & slicker than the Big Augie, decent turner
7'6 BigCat - - this is responsive & wide in the front with volume under chest = wave-catcher
    7'6 Strive - - great boart
6'8 Strive Bully - - another great boart
6'6 Lost LazyBoy - - luv this boart, I can shove it into steep & deep, it paddles so well & is twitchy enough for my lack-of-ability level
6'2 HS Hypto - - just getting into this, it feels like a cork, shove way up on it when paddling, even with my size (6'2, 215) impossible to pearl

Dream boarts, tough to say. I really like anything that Biolos turns out. He seems attuned to what is the surfer reality, not fixated on 'what the pros ride.'

ISO of a big 10' boart for summer, also might bring to Chicama. Then again if I lose 20 lbs I don't need no steeenkin' barge.

I have some retro sticks that I want to get back into the ocean this year. Got an old 7'0 Bing, c. 1970, nicely restored by Austin; my plan is to try it out this summer. Along with a Claude Codgen Sunshine House 6'7 from the 70's, it's fun to watch 'the yooots' reaction to that boart when I bring it to the shore.

Boarts are functional art. I have 23 of 'em, and like Gaff & like a lotta youse buoys, it's an effort to not bring home even more.

I have a very nice arrangement with my Madmoiselle about board acquisitions. It keeps her from wondering if I have gone nuts buying boards over the years. For every board I buy, she can go buy herself $1000 worth of clothing at Talbots. She urges me to surf only on new boards!! And....she dresses up real nice for me when we go out together. Win-win.

Good question. I've been torn in recent years and subsequently gotten boards shaped that I did not like. It was a frustrating few years but I think I am closer to my dream lol.

During the 90s and early 00s I was riding more narrow shapes in Hawaii and moving back east (and while general surfboard design was changing) I reverted back to less rocker and wider (and more recently thicker...lbs and aging body lol).

I had a 7"2 Glenn Pang that was magic. It had a nice rounded pin tail perfect rocker and it was not too gunny. If I could have any big wave ( for me...no need for 7'6+ these days lol) it would be that one (call that one a broken dream).

    So, for our conditions I have a 5'11 and 3 6'4s. Also have a 6'7, 8' epoxy, 9'6 tanker.

I am now waiting on my latest quest for the dreamy shred stick. 6'1" (6'2" blank.) 20.5. 2.625 swallow...5 fin. I'm hopeful it fulfills. I just lost about 10 lbs on purpose and I am really trying to stay in better shape. I dropped a few pounds right before Indo last year and with this last 10, I feel like I'm at a good "surfing weight" (5'11, 188lbs).

All the talk about fish has me yearning for one those and I'm currently in the hunt for one for this summer.

My wife and I have a similar arrangement except no dollar amounts have been discussed. It's worked out thus far. Funny thing is she is a bargain shopper and tends to not match my spending in one purchase or even a few, it takes her all year and she still probably doesn't out spend my surf addiction when you throw in all equipment and travel costs.

Could ride this quiver at home or take it anywhere in the world.

    6'8" egg

9'0" LB with pulled in nose plus pin tail

9'4" LB - total nose rider. Wide nose, big square tail

All single fins. All shaped by Terry Martin

This is a good thread. Lots of interesting approaches to a workable quiver. I got to say, when i figured out what i liked and disliked in my boards...and got the boards shaped. It was very rewarding. Boards turned out perfect, didn't have to go back and make any tweaks to design or size. Super cool and rewarding experience. Working with a good shaper helps. But damn, it was probably the most fun iv had surfing, outside of the water ofcourse.

Also forgot one board I'd like to add to my quiver. It's based off a board i owned but sold to a friend who'd get more use out of it. It was a 7'8 "performance fun shape". Super foiled out. At first glance it looked like a normal fun shape, but when you start looking at the details you realize it was somthing more. Id like to recreate that board in maybe a 6'6-6'8. Pulled in tail. Foiled and performancey. 2+1 set up or maybe just as a single. Somthing for big lined up days that's not your standard SB but can still perform.

I freaking love surf boards man. So many diffrent fun options for any given day

I surf the Mid Atlantic region and bring two boards on every surf mission.

7'0 Walden Mini Magic... Super fun board to ride in anything from knee to head high waves. This board makes even the mediocre surfing days fun.

6'0 performance board... I'll break out a HPSB when the waves get good.

Sometimes less is more. This two board setup will cover 90% of the conditions on the east coast.
