Metard, I used to live there. I can't wait to move back. Surfing singer island is my favorite and when the waters flat I fish. I wonder if we've been in the water together a few times..

You are always welcomme and are part of the FFM (Flip Flop Mafia), like it or not - no retirement benefits but you get to sleep with the fishies. And play with the snapper.

Somewhere (I hope) I've got a VHS tape I took somewhere out on the ocean side of the Olympic Peninsula, standing on top of driftwood watching these massive bombs crash so hard it would shake the ground like freaking arty going off. And by driftwood I mean piles of douglas firs. It was raining like fock (of course), and I had to scramble and climb over a bunch of them to get as close as possible. I watched as one of these huge firs, stripped of all branches, would get tossed by these massive waves, ripped down the beach, then sucked back out, then tossed and slammed again. It just looped like that over and over. Like it was a f'ing matchstick. The power and fury of it was incredible.

Also got to see the Halle-Boppe comet from the Oregon Dunes on a perfectly clear, new moon night. Froze my nards off b\c I knew I'd never see anything like that again and I refused to leave. My dog kept looking at me like there was something seriously wrong with me, just standing there staring.

Really incredible out there. St Helens, Rainier, Baker, and so on and so on. But I just couldn't take all that rain and gloom all the time. That and my psycho GF at the time.

I love the beach, but I love the water even more. We usually end up with several trucks parked, all good friends, kids running around, adults and kids of all ages either having fun or out surfing\playing in the water. All really good people. But when peeps show up and I'm already in the water and they ask my wife "where's that dumba$$ wookie at?" She just says, "he's in his happy place", and they know. If I'm not in the water, I'm thinking about being in the water, when I'm going to get back in the water, and almost always watching the waves. Even if it's crap, I'm still watching.

When I finally kick off the wife is gonna have an Irish wake on the beach. No tears and moping, everyone get smashed and raise hell, and celebrate the fact that I made it that far and had a damn good time. Then toss my ashes in the Atlantic, just like my Dad, and I'll return home.

I'm trying to understand how my friend even has time to work down there. He moved to the Caribbean and got some job as some tour guide on a boat. He basically surfs the rest of the time and goes home and watches hockey at night. Some life he's got. I always get random blast texts from him relating to hockey games and then all these pictures of the waves. Life is gud for him haha.
I'm not one to really just sit on the beach either. I actually like just laying on the beach or sitting on the beach on a sunny Winter day, more than a warm Summer day. I'd rather be in the water, whether it's surfing, on a wave runner or boat, just swimming. Doesn't matter. I'll sit on the beach for a few minutes to take a break or get a drink or something. That's about it.

My cousin used to bum me out so much. He loved going to the beach every day, yet all he would do was sit on the beach from 10:00 AM till about 4:00 or 5:00 PM, with maybe an hour of walking around or getting something to eat in between. He'd only get in the water and go for a swim about a handful of times per year. I liked just being in the water. He'd jump in the water on those 90 degree days, where there was minimal breeze and you'd sweat just sitting on the beach.

This is something that I never understood, sitting on the beach while you sweat without any activity or water sounds like some 7th circle ****

Yeah I don't get it either. It's like going to an amusement park and not riding any rides. Yeah that fried turkey leg is cool, but WTF? I want some roller coasters.

I realized something on the way to work this am, thinking about when I finally kick off. The last thing done will be to throw my sh!t in the water.

I feel like a lot of beachgoers do this. My mom loves the beach and barely ever gets in the water, my dad was the same way, as was his brother. He's the cousin (really was my uncle) that I mentioned. My uncle (mom's brother) also loves the beach and goes daily where he lives on the Gulf in Treasure Island, Florida, yet he barely ever gets in the water. My sisters are the same way.

Literally all my family on BOTH sides loves the beach, but barely get in the water, outside of occasionally or putting their feet in and standing with the water at their knees or even ankle. I'm like the only one that loves being in the water.

Bro, I'm talking New Jersey over here not Oahu. The talent is not the same, brazzers it is not. Anyway, cooler full of beers on the beach is solid but again, ya mix it in with some time in the water and some volleyball or something. Plus, the people I'm referring to are not hanging out drinking beer and taking in the scenery, they legit pull up to the beach, set their chair out and fuxkin sweat all damn day. They don't do anything.
