What is the ideal tide for surfing the poles? N fla. Not the arctic/antarctica. I am here on vac looking to catch it. Help!
Wish I knew. My friend lives in Jacksonville and surfs there regularly. He always says it's pretty packed, especially in the morning hours.
Make sure you check out the classy strip clubs in Mayport. Also take the Ferry up North. Park at a certain park, walk the beach in a certain direction for about a mile. Look for wood, surf.
Thank you! First surf in 7 months after no more cancer. I like it the poles are spread out enough i can get my own little peak, i surfed it once before. I am staying in atlantic/neptune beach, but it seems to break weird here compared to the poles. What tide is best for atlantic/neptune?
NORTH FLORIDA SHORT TERM FORECAST: Strong onshore winds and rising windswell today. Most spots see poor surf through the day. Low tide is around 2PM. A new St. Augustine buoy has been deployed. Check it here! http://www.surfline.com/surf-report/mayport-poles-florida_5318/
I used to live there years ago. Low incoming is generally best but you can get a fun session at any tide depending on what's going on. I worked nights and would surf it 2,4, or 6 hours a day sometimes. Honestly sometimes low is not best. Spring time I liked high tide around full moon. No beach and water all the way to the dunes but still shallow a long way out. On a decent swell it made for looonnng ripable waves. I've always heard low tide is best for Poles. I only surfed it a handful of times, but enough to believe it.
Thank you. Lower right lung wedge resection and then cyberknife to the upper right thigh. I took 7 months off to be a metastatic fibrosarcoma patient. I got the all clear friday. Now i can go back to being a surfer.
I thought it best to surf it at midtide to high. Maybe 3 hours after dead-low to dead-high. For weak but surfable windswells. There was a time that Poles worked during low, but a big NE'r a couple of years ago changed that and it needed a little bit of water for the better sections to show up
And thank you, because the little swell today did not show until as you stated above, so here i go! Pretty stoked right now.
