red drum fishing 5 years ago, i have tons of pics but my only video of fishing, smaller red but long fight...current was horrible and made it more fun...september/october great time for red fishing and surfing...love fall.

I have penn 525mags (no longer made), and diawa saltist...had avets which I never wish I got rid of...Going to be buying some new reels, and will get a couple avets and maybe penn fathoms. Had abus, love those things too...they fly! As far as rods, I use to have rods that could easily thow 10 and bait, but am down to just 1...611 knocked out a couple, I will never learn....other rods will throw 8 and bait max and thats pushing it...need a to replace and get a couple heavers...most of the rods I built myself too from rainshadow blanks years ago.

this is just my opinion, but I hate spinning for bait fishing from the surf, which is 90% of what I do. When throwing 10oz's + heads in tough conditions, spinning, imo is not practical. Just to much weight on your finger, tho they have trigger mechanisms for spinning that I just dont care for...prefer the distance I get from conventional too...and like to be able to feel the line when retrieving...no level winds for me...shock leader knots are problems....chit can nick your lines in the surf, so I like to be able to check the line as I reel.

If I had it my way, I would prefer to cast and retrieve with casting, but when it comes down to fighting a fish from the surf, I prefer spinning.

And...most importantly, IMO, conventional is just plain fun.

If you are ever interested going out on the orv for some fishing, shoot me a pm, more then happy to take you out...Iam right by the island and we can meet me at my house and we can drive on...heck, if there is surf, we can surf a few hours with incoming and catch the last 3 hours of incoming fishing.

BIVA?...Great in June for big reds. Never figured out why we never see them here in June...not talking a big difference in distance...once in a blue moon, but thats it.

 

I fish strictly artificials from the beach, and prefer spinning. I'd only use conventional for bait, or for deep water or jigging from a boat... 'cause you've got plenty of line to play with. But for what I do, spinning is just more practical.

 

for catching stripers and black drum - now until about the first week in June..then for red drum - first week in September until mid to late October and stripers/chomper blues - end of October until January. Off every Wednesday, but can go after work any weekday after 3pm except for saturdays and sundays. If ever interested, shoot me a pm.

Summer is great for kingfish/whiting. Dam good eating if you like fish...easy to filet too.

 

Got out today after a good surf session... fished for about 30-40 minutes avd caught a nice sized fluke avd a short striped bass for nj... used a white twirly tail grub on a 1/4oz jig and some live attractant.

 

Here's a little fishing tip for you guys.

I go on my local fishing forum pretty much daily and definitely after every weekend to see which googan is bragging about his catch. About 50% of the time they'll leave their location info on the photos. I save each pic, go to properties then details and if the GPS location is on there I put it straight into Google Earth. You can get a little further into it and see when the pic was taken and check the tide for that area so you'll have all the info.

Yeah man.... Don't leave your GPS info on your pics. Or do and I'll find your spot and believe me, I'm no hacker. Most social media sites change your pics to fit their preferences and remove that type of data. Not sure what SI does. The amount of information you put out there is totally within your control, just look at your location services.
