Artificial limbs are going to keep improving, I suspect in huge leaps and bounds, over the coming years. Not to mention voice activated technology is rapidly evolving. It would still be brutally hard but better than death.

Quadriplegia though would be much harder to live with.

 

Maybe ask Bethany H that question, considering she's done quite well for herself in life and surfs better than anyone on this forum ever will.

The dead only know one thing, IT is better to be ALIVE! I have 2 young girls,The thought of losing one to a shark would be guilt beyond imagination! At the same time there's a better chance dying on the way to the break in your car. teaching awareness is really all you can do!

Wow...a 17 year old girl.
That is tragic certainly for the girl, but her family must be wiped out with sorrow.

 

My first thought was that had to have been an utter horror scene in the water. Second was the sheer devastation the family is going through. You guys with kids, esp daughters I'm sure strongly relate.

 

true. But where do you draw the line? West Oz is no picnic either and there have been calls to cull there as well

 

don't feel right killing hundreds of sharks so we can be safe at the playground! if you surf at restricted areas, you should be ready to pay the price! no wave in the world is worth getting bit in half! maybe a pinky?

 

Sharks do not stay out of nonrestricted areas, now, do they?
Culling is okay in my book. But it won't make a rats ass difference to great whites and their attack rate. They are "protected". Humans, not so much. That tells me it must have been a jackass liberal that put those protections in place. Some filthy non swimming liberal that knows better than you or I do. And it wasn't his daughter that lost her life.

 

I have 12 and 14 yo girls, both have 8' foamies. when I said restricted, I was referring to the deadly surf breaks at reunion island. I read that a lot of attacks happen at these locations where there's better surf! either way, not a place id want to surf or dive! cant possible imagine what that poor father is going through! that's why my girls will never surf the outer cape, for obvious reasons! peace!

No to culling, surf at your own risk. Or go to a wave pool if you're scared of dying by shark attack (and if you die of staph infection from said wave pool, wouldn't that be ironic).
