Shark populations are rising... seal populations are rising... number of limbs being ripped off by sharks are getting higher. Either start killing the seals and sharks and use it as a food source.. or out smart them and create a full proof repellent.

culling I don't think is the answer but relaxed recreational fishing limits might help, the limit rules are extremely crazy, in S.C you can only keep 1, just one and that is per person and or per boat. 5 people take a boat out we can bring back 1 not 5 just 1..i have a hard time fathoming that bulls, sands tigers are that threatened here in the SE....3 per person would be a start

With all the negative aspects of surfing in NE, one thing I never give a passing thought to is sharks. Last shark attack fatality was 1936.

The white shark population is exploding off Cape Cod, due to the seals. There a literally tens of miles of seals lining the beaches up there in some places. It's only a matter of time before a human get's popped. There have already been some close calls.
There is no doubt that these seals are very overpopulated.

in 1936 there wasn't over 150 whites tagged, that's a fact. last year on shark week they showed a satellite image of all the seals. its a huge dark mass from space, over 100,000 seals! their shatt and piss is ringing the dinner bell! its not a question of if, its a question of when!!!! http://cbsloc.al/1YtLVXZ

Yea but, 'when' has not happened yet. After a good 5 or 6 confirmed bloody deaths and/or dismemberments, then maybe I'll get concerned. But still,I very rarely see a seal up here in New Hammy, they seem to mostly like hanging in the Cape, and I don't surf down there.

There's a big difference between NH and CC. You shouldn't think about sharks where you are.

sad story, not surprised tho west oz is a really dangerous place for surfing, not only is it full of hungry sharks, but its a desolute wasteland of a desert lol meaning u get hurt ur going to need a helicopter to take u to the hospital.a lot of pros come from west oz,just super sharky like reunion but theres really not that many attacks there.

and I highly doubt that "shark population is rising" whoever said that, seals I can believe because too many sharks are being killed and theyr not eating as much.thats what happens when u disturb the foodchain.

sharks are just the risk we have to take if we want to go in the ocean so...

With all the positives of surfing in Florida, we are #1 in shark attacks. There was an attack at my break this past weekend.

I actually went back to Coast Guard beach exactly one week after I ran into whitey! figured I better get back on the horse.the same crew was there and they circled up to pray! at first I was like, "I'm good" but before I knew it, I was praying too! that day was uneventful besides the surf. the following labor day I went back. to my disappointment there were seals everywhere. there were maybe 5 seals the day whitey showed up. now there's like 50 on the bar and behind that was open ocean! no surfer in sight so I packed it in! it was dawn and eerie as hell! p.s. I truly believed the only time my life was in danger was doing 80 down rt 6 towards Eastham!!

No doubt they're mostly small sharks, but equivalent to a nasty dog bite. You wouldn't want to be bitten by a dog now, would you Barry?

I will gladly throw myself into the sharks mouth and let it rip me apart into a thousand pieces if it meant sparing my daughters life

The white shark population is absolutely rising.

    Most certainly is.
It is a basic concept in wildlife management that, as prey populations rise so do their predators population. The number given is a 10% population rise of the predator compared to the preys, as the caloric transfer from one trophic level to another is 10%.
I knew that in 1973 when I took Ecology course in college. Now, those percentages may have changed as newer data came in since the Jurassic (1973), but maybe not. I am too fvcking lazy to look it up....

I feel bad for some of these sharks, theres sharks that are literally 80yrs old,no joke and for them to be around that long only to have some fisherman come and kill ya.

some studies show that sharks are a lot like dogs, that people and other creatures can actually build a friendship lol with them.perfect case is clark little with a 16ft tiger named tank, who looks like a fukin tank...its like an elephant playing with a mouse, super dangerous lol but if u have the faith maybe u can make it happen.not me tho I'm good
