Thanks. You're right. I need to calm down. Barry unleashed the hounds. I have been delivered out of the yoga prison camp formerly known as surfing. It sure feels like for the past 10 years i have been told i should do yoga, dude, or i'm totally missing out. Missing out on what? I surf! I'm stoked! Ok I'm calm, now. Deep breaths. I do think turdface or whatever his zen name is does push it too hard.
bassmon i agree with ya buddy. I look at the world through a logical scientific perspective (i got a bachelors of science degree after all) but i acknowledge theres a lot we dont understand, and science will never have all the answers. F u ck i mean on the subatomic level everything is governed by the random swerving of tiny bits of matter. Random probabilistic outcomes, wheres the logic in that? So i also look at the world with an open mind and more of an instinctual perspective. I think whatever you want to believe is true for you, that's your reality that you have manifested as an individual (although still governed by some concrete principles of science such as physics). Applying it to others is erroneous . I mean just look at this: soul and science
You can prove/disprove anything you want if subjected to an appropriate randomized, double blind statistically relevant study. For example, does it lower blood pressure?? Take 400 non yoga subjects (control group), and 400 yoga fans....same age group, same racial makeup, etc. Have them go through their yoga or non yoga practices and compare blood pressures at start, at end, and check points in-between. Which group fared best in blood pressures? stuff like that. Then compare the yoga outcome to a third group and a fourth group say joggers, and cyclists. Did yoga do better or differ from other 2 forms ? Was it yoga in itself, or is it all forms of exercise?? Etc, etc...
The biggest problem with "scientific fact" is that no matter how solid the facts are, another group of scientists backed with research money from dubious sources (always with an agenda) will come along and "disprove" that which was proven. As well, things deemed as "scientific fact" only a generation ago no longer hold water. Science is too often manipulated, now more than ever. The heart of flaw in Science is Man himself.
I'm not arguing that point. Don't confuse my words. I'm a fan of yoga but i never said it was a healer of all things. I'm also not saying or science is wrong. I'm just saying we don't know it all. When i mentioned yoga i was using is as a hypothetical example. Look at what trev said, that's what i was getting at. He's better at articulating sentences though.
lol you're killing me bro Trev, great point. Just like everything else in life, there are exceptions to the rules. Maybe one day when someone disproves Sir Newton, we could witness unbelievable leaps in technology.
yea i mean gravity is pretty fu cking concrete. And you can only grasp reality with the tools at your disposal (i.e. science) but as the crazy quantum mechanics and string theory folk will tell you, that .000000001% probability of something happening (or being disproven) still keeps it in the existential ballgame.
I missed the part where someone said yoga is the one and only, you must do it. I certainly didn't say anything like that. Why the hostility and personal attacks? I stumbled on yoga a few years ago, and immediately found it very beneficial, so I decided to learn more. Yoga is way more complex than I originally thought and cannot be lumped in with other forms of therapeutic exercise. Anyhow, I'm only trying to share an awesome life hack with ya'll, and some of you are getting all spun about it. I would never expect people to unanimously jump on board with yoga. What you guys do, or don't do has no effect on my life; so there is definitely no interest on my part to push or preach. Deliberately misspelling words is a fad, Yoga has been around for over 5000 years, and is still going strong for a reason. I've literally spent hundreds of hours researching, practicing, teaching, and being taught yoga. I've read many books, some of which are written by doctors. I had to pass exams on these books. I've taught doctors, and been taught by doctors, among many others. We (yogis) do this weird thing too where we talk to each other in real life about our own experiences, and ones regarding other students before and after class. I've had amazing feedback, and know a handful of people personally, who have eliminated chronic health issues, reduced meds, or stopped taking them all together (as ordered by their physician) because of their yoga practice. I aced all of my written tests on yoga, just not Barry's. Oh well. Sorry I made yous angry. Breathe.
Yo buddy, how's the fam? I came across the most appalling IG account a little ways back. I thought of posting it, but it was too brutal. Dudes calling wolves beautiful as they hung frozen and dead in snares.
