Fishing threade

Thank you for the fishing advice gentlemen. I caught a couple skates; chill day. No complaints

 

Was going through pictures and found this shot of my wife's first threesome...
Last summer... just two croakers but she was pumped.

 

Wow those are giant croakers! Still lots,of big fish in the bay up here. Just hooked what looked like a keeper striper last night, unfortunately it threw the hook. Caught 7 whopper blues to make up for it.

 

I am totally sold on plugs and poppers lately. I never really got into them but the reaction I have seen this spring from stripers and bluefish to a surface popper has me rethinking my strategy.

 

there is nothing better than watching a striper or blue crash a plug. Hands down the most exciting fishing (besides flats for tarpon and bonies)

 

Aggreed. 95% of the fishing I do is surface plugs... Especially in the bay when is calm, quiet and sheet glass.
Nothing better than seeing a bass follow a plug then finally smash it.

Check out this screen shot from my sonar this evening. Those are all bluefish, big bluefish. Spent 2 hours catching and releasing monster blues, nothing under 35 inches. I've never seen a run this big in my whole life it's actually getting a bit repetitive.

 

A boat and good sonar is key. There are times I would have given up if it weren't for the side imaging. With bluefish you can set the side imaging out 100 feet on either side and just ride around until you spot them. If your fishing on foot from the beach it can be hit or miss, I feel your pain there.

 

just fish from the beach...in the surf zone. Longest period of monster blues. Happens every year, tho this year, they are lingering longer. Kinda tired of them, tearing up my gear. Trying to get stripers. Switched to fleas just to keep them off and they still swim into my lines...thats how thick they are in the surf zone...most between 30-40"

 

I'm talking specifically the bay run. These schools are as think as my sonar shows from the Chincoteague bay all the way to Indian River. Just wondering why so many ventured in the bay this year. They have been thick in years past but not like this at least in the shallows.

 

It is pretty crazy...black drum I think are thicker then normal too. I remember several years ago, puppy drum (redfish, red drum) were thick in the surf zone in the fall. I was taking one home every time I went out...and this went on for almost 2 months. I freakin love eating those fish. Wierd tho, only happened one year. I would once in a while catch a puppy in the fall other years, 99% were big reds. I think they were like that in the back bay too. I like fish, and that is one of my favorites!
