Wow. That is really something - - thx for posting, Wrex.

I've been loosely following AI & driverless cars & all of that (it has an impact on my company's way of generating revenue). This stuff is spooky & fascinating.

When you have luminaries like Hawking & Gates issuing dire warnings to humans that homo sapien better be damn careful where they take AI....oh buoy, not good.

    On a more 'street' note.....

    It’s on.

What happens to the State Troopers when driverless cars take over? What happens to all that revenue from them writing speeding tickets? What happens to all those speed cams / red light cams in DC that generate $190 mln per year in fines & penalties…..? Driverless cars reduce that amount to …… zero…..

Yankee, the funny thing is, it seems waaaay closer than we think

more technology makes more better jobs for horses, but not quite lol

cops should be like fireman: only active when called

the marxists will tax robots to bridge funding gaps, but now there might be base $$ for the UBI, but my god thats a bad idea, talk about slavery and tyranny writ large

Now that we're too stupid to have a sense of direction (meaning N. S. E. and W.), and too lazy look at a map before we hit the road, Google knows exactly where we are, where we're going, where we're coming from, and how fast we're driving.

    Great...........

Oh... and have you noticed that GPS-dependent drivers have lost the skill of reading road signs?

^^ I used to give a 'Map 101' training seminar to my Technicians. Y'know, how to read maps, how to utilize the glossary, why DC is laid out out in the image of Paris (Pierre L'Enfant actually was a genius), how the syllable system of naming roads in DC works to make it easy to understand exactly where you are if you're in the, say, 3800 block of Corcoran Street NW, why all the avenues run at angles & are named after states, why there is a canal lock master's house on Constitution & 17th, why Arlington National Cemetery is where it is (on Robt E. Lee's old property)....the intriguing stories behind 'boring' maps & why things are the way they are today that no one thinks about.

.....until a day last year when one of my Techs stated that he came out of a work site on Pennsylvania Avenue NW & had no idea where he was or which direction to go to his next job without his GPS / phone map app. I realized then & there that technology has created the geographical equivalent of the deaf & dumb in this generation.

SMH. Retreated to office to check forecast.....

I was at a conference in March out in San Jose and the nerds are actually starting to worry. One of the topics was how do we as individuals and companies go about developing AI knowing it is a job killer.

It is without a doubt the thing the pissed me off about the election, neither moron wanted to touch the subject.

    Good one ^.

Along those lines, AI is going to take over in incremental ways. The asshats who develop these sorts of things are going to put it in the context of 'it is better for your quality of life.'

Example: You have a restless night, can't sleep, morning arrives, time to go to work. You go to leave the house.

The AI that is now in charge of your environmental aspects speaks to you: 'Sorry, Elmo, I've already called you off work today. You need to stay home & rest because I've noted that you didn't get your required 8 hrs of sleep last night. The doors will remain locked, the driverless car app in your device disabled & all electronic communication devices are also disabled. You will now go get 6 hrs of sleep, Elmo. After that I can enable you to rejoin your regular activities.'

The asshats who designed this will say it's better for all to keep drowsy people home, blah blah blah.

Sketchy stuff coming our way very, very soon...

Technology is increasing at an exponential rate, and we are just rounding the curve. It is difficult to fully grasp what this means until you consider that if you fold a piece of regular paper 42 times you'll reach the moon, 103 times and it will be as thick as the universe. Now apply this concept to our rate of technological advancement. Hello Skynet.

You want a crazy AI read? "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream," Harlan Ellison, published in 1967.

Mofos don't want to put in the effort so they will gladly accept robots taking over their lives. Look at the political landscape. In robot voice - "can't take care of self, please take care of me, govt must take of me, can't make decision, abort, abort, abort"

Could go either one of two ways:

1 Things get less expensive and people can work less while maintaining a higher quality of life.

2 Things get less expensive but people cannot afford the higher quality of life because they are working less
