So we just returned from 3 days in Ottawa Canada. On re-entering the USA, Customs agent asked if we are bringing any items back in from shopping in Canada?? Clothing? Booze? Chocolates? On entering Canada 2 days prior, the Canadian Customs agent asked if we are bringing any guns with us.....???WTF??? Perceptions of us Americans.
Guns going into Canada for sure. Used to be exchanged for the high quality MJ being grown there. I'm not sure if bud is still coming south, but guns, cocaine and cash were being exchanged for BC Bud and meth precursors. But for sure, most Canadian law enforcement view Americans as undereducated gun toting cowboys.
canadian border patrol sucks. american border patrol rules. last time i overheard the dude talking to his other border patrol buddy "yeah man u gotta ask the canadians last night hockey scores to test their citizenship, if they dont know there lieing about there citizenship and dont let them in" also the drug dog sat down on my bag in texas in the airport on the way back from peru and home girl basically said dont worry about it once she got to my semi wet wetsuite. fu ck the wall keep these guys benefits up so they dont get all agro.
I regularly travel to Canada for work, but only by air travel. Not by automobile. Some of the airports have some really slow customs wait times though.
And that is my point in this thread. I found it funny, and so did my wife, who, as you may know is Quebec born and raised french-canadian girl.
I should have responded in spanish; that would have thrown them for a loop but also ended up searching my car.....
They were doing you a huge favor Barry, you get caught with a gun in Canada that you did not declare ( even by accident) be prepared for prison time.
Yeah, we thought so as well. When we told the story to my wifes friends, they laughed heartily at it as well. We were not offended at all.
Yeah, it's kinda funny. When Canucks enter our country, we think of them as irrelevant and harmless. When we enter theirs, it's almost like you're on a terrorist watch list. But who could blame them? Look at our daily news stories. They read like a pulp fiction novel. And they share a border with Detroit, with Chicago nearby. Might as well be sharing a border with Beirut. But my experience is that the majority of Canucks are more refined, even the rural bumpkins. And boy, do they love to scrap. Pretty cool stuff.
My view of Canada is forever tainted by South Park. Apparently they only have one road.
