I pretty much agree with this. I think Mr. Barry comes from a position of having done a few things in the past, so it's cool to say this.

How about if you have a real good friend that has the problem? Ya wanna help em out, but if ya go TOO far, get too tough, the friend leaves. Then you KNOW they ain't gonna quit. It's walkin a tightrope tryna go hard, but not TOO hard.

Some dudes tell me, "Fvck em, Paulie! Ain't worth yer trouble. They ain't changin. Give it up, homes."

Maybe they're right, but maybe not.

 

As for me, pretty much tried everything in the 70s. They got too much scary sh!t nowadays, though. I flow on and off the herb as life goes here and there. I started over 40 yrs ago. Prolly wouldn't have made it goin that long without a break.

My current hiatus was a result of all my suppliers goin away. One got a bullet in the back of his head out in front of Parkland, the worst apts here in G-Town. Another left town. The 3rd one is in prison. Reckon I coulda found a new bud vendor, at the hood store, but just figgered it was time to flow a different way for a little while.

i won't buy bud in my hometown anymore. i still got high school buddies that blaze, but i've been with them a couple times and they were in some ghett places. last time, a couple yrs ago, it camefrom some 40ish yr old Veitnamese dude who was shady as sht. that's when i told myself, bring your herb from charleston or don't bother. plus the herb is better where i'm at currently than the hometown. i'll occ do the random drugs - shrooms or sumtin- but it's pretty much running out of sources after college. there's enough sht to do around town to keep my mind occupied then looking for drugs. i like to keep 3 sources tho for ganja - healing purposes obviouzly

 

I've done pretty much the whole bunch and really did have a problem. Did the withdrawals, lying, stealing, didn't surf for probably 5 years. Ended up living in a Ford Probe and showering at truck stops for a winter with a pretty heavy habit. Had a bunch of people around me dying and had relegated myself to the same fate for whatever reason. No one wanted anything to do with me unless they needed something. I always maintained a job and hustled enough to get by but was on the knifes edge.

Had my wakeup call and just stopped. It sucked, was hard, and was the best thing I had ever done. Left all the people behind that I knew weren't helping to be around and did what I had to do. No help, no handouts. I had made my bed and I was laying in it. It can be done by anyone. Trust me, I was as close to too far gone as you can get.

 

Miserable?? Hardly, could not be happier.
But I recognize YOUR weakness.

 

would love to write a book called "SURFING TO SOBRIETY", not really gonna happen seeing that I'm a union tin knocker not a writer! anyway, I went to my first rehab aug 4th 2016! wife got a restrainer and couldn't even talk to my 2 girls 12 and 14! never been that low in my life! got picked up by my wife and girls 28 days later! had a great day and then got dropped off at moms! had to sleep on a bed that my grandfather died on 2 month earlier for a month. that was almost 10 month ago! because of AA and my commitment to being a better father and husband I am back in the big bed. now I'm coaching both girls in softball,"i wasn't allowed on the field last year do to my drinking and drugging" back to work and feeling awesome! the real kicker is that I have hundreds of posts but still suck at surfing! I never could make the hour drive without a 12 pack, Xanax, weed, whatever helped make the ride faster and the music better! ive broken off the rear view mirror of my life and now I look forward not back! I'm very athletic even for a 48 yo! doesn't take a smart guy like BARRY to figure out why I wasn't progressing! I truly look forward in my new surfing journey that doesn't include surfing fugged up! wasted a trip to C.R. got fugged up and I could of learned a lot a witch's rock surf camp! oh well, sometimes you have to put the bat down and stop beating yourself! I'm gonna treat every surf session like I'm the luckiest man alive because I am! gratitude is a action word and I'm trying to live this way! my 14yo daughter gave me a real hug yesterday and its been years! had tears in my eyes at work today. thank god for safety glasses, lol! I wish you all the best when it come to some of these demons that show up unexpectedly! I know not everyone is into GOD but if you ask him for help in the am, you'll be amazed what happens! subconcience or not it works for me! PEACE!!!!

Some of the best times I've had in my life have been on drugs. I myself have never been dependent on them or considered myself a true addict. I just enjoy drugs responsibly. I've had uncles, best friends, etc... who sold everything from ice to really good bud. A few of my friends got hooked on prescription pills and coke. Maybe during a brief stretch doing anything (playing basketball, wakeboarding, movies) without smoking some pot first made it not seem as fun but that quickly went away. It's funny though, the one thing I've never enjoyed doing is getting high and going surfing. I definitely don't do many drugs anymore and I guess a lot of it has to do with surfing. I'm way more addicted to surfing, traveling and photography than any other high out there. I've tried weed, coke, acid, shrooms, crack, ice, pills, X, freebasing and anything else out there besides heroin and meth. My wife and I still drink on the weekends but even that is usually just Saturdays and maybe a beer or two during the week max, if a good game is on or something. I've also been trying to cut out liquor unless we're out at a bar or something and it's been amazing how much better I feel on Sunday's now. Having said all that, I just recently returned from a trip to Colorado and brought back some amazing bud and a few edibles. Still, just generally dabble with them on the weekends even though I work from home. Just be responsible!

The best high I've ever had was when I took the 8 gauge needle to penetrate my aeotra vein with rattlesnake venom. What a fuked up 5 day high that was!!!

lets see I smoke weed everyday,multiple times a day,wouldnt quite call that a problem just a thing to do.iv done coke before,probably like 11 yrs ago or something.iv done ecstacy once,and I got into a fight while I was high and end up puking my brains out so I never did it again.

done moly twice,being it was 1 bag and I wasn't doing it all once,got it as a gift.didnt like it,made my stomach hurt and not have an appetite,i don't like drugs like that.

iv taken just about every pharmaceutical there is,i don't even know the names of some of them,basically everything from amphetamines to opiates.i was prescribed roxys for 4 yrs but kicked them ****s 3-4 yrs ago and never thought about it since.if u want to be clean u will stay clean.if ur only getting clean for the sake of others u will relapse.

never did dope.or meth or crack or mushrooms.wish I could do some mushrooms,just rare over here lol.thats about it.i only drink on Saturday for a few hours,not too big on the booze.i just smoke

Psilocybin is the boss chemical that allowed for our brains to evolve and even experience 'drugs' in the first place. And I believe it lead us to its cousin dmt.

wow - a lot of fellers on here with similar stories. you can add my name to list (alcohol). went cold turkey for 5 years. I started up again but nothing like before. really can't drink more than a few now. good luck to those trying to change.

 

This rings very true to me. Two good friends, one in particular.... Got bad habits. My small tight group of friends all deaded him. Cut him off. Not talking or seeing you until you clean up type thing. Let his family know so they could keep a eye on him. It was all out of love and we made that clear. Instead he got super defensive. Thinks we did him wrong some how. Keep in mind he denied his problem the whole time.... so admitting we were trying to help would mean admitting he has a problem. About two years now. Not better. Was the best man at a friends wedding last week..... didn't show up

 

I know it's tough and sucks but untill someone's ready there's not much you can do! Sometimes you have to lose a lot before one decides to get help! Good luck bro, I mean it!

 

I'd like to say what it was in my life, starting with selling many pounds of weed to the wealthy kids to pay for my collitch tuition (and that was in the Rockefeller drug law era), but all this true confessional stuff would blow up on me when I run for prez in 2020.
