So... it being Memorial Day Weekend and all, and the official start of the surfing season, you must have seen something worth telling a story about. Boards on cars backwards? Passed out drunks with 2rd degree sunburns? A "shark" scare? Don't hold back. I'll start first... I was at my local today, having a really fun solo session just one beach away from where at least 15 dudes were sharing a peak off a popular jetty. It was good at the jetty... I just wasn't into the crowd. Not ready for that just yet, if I can help it. I knew it wouldn't last long, and I habitually kept looking up and down the beach, waiting to see someone eventually noticing that it was firing where I was, and "only one guy out." Sure enough, here comes two dudes, carrying their boards... yes... in board bags. They walk all the way down the beach to where I was, past at least two or three other sandbars that were working ok, and drop their boards in the sand. I notice only one guy suiting up, while the other guy goes straight into the water in boardshorts... and straight back out again. I guess he didn't have a suit, so he just sat on the beach and watched. I get a long wave all the way down the beach, then belly it in, get out, and start to walk back up the beach to paddle out again - next to a storm drain pipe. As I'm walking up the beach, I see the dude who suited up jump in next to the pipe... but on the up current side. Sure enough, he gets half way out, takes a set on the head, and gets pinned up against the pipe. In a panic, he jumps off his board, and starts to try to walk it in back to the beach. The set passes, and he makes it back in. I walk right up to the pipe on the down current side, and paddle straight out. He follows. I notice he's in a 5 mil, with the hood back. Once we get outside, he sits up and looks at me. I don't ever recall seeing him before, ever. "Hey man... how's it going!?" he says, like he's excited to see me. "...Good..." I say, with a fake smile. I really try to place his face, but I still don't recognize him. He thinks he recognizes me... or at least he wants me to think so. "Water's really warming up!" he says. "Yea... sure is," I said... and paddled away, happy knowing that by doing so, I guarantee myself I won't have to do any first aid today.
^^^^^^ The garbage is crazy. Its like every year on this very weekend, everyone on the island dumps there trash on the beach, in the parking lot, and along the road side to the beach. Seriously the difference between mid week and this weekend is disgusting.

I hope to see the clock and hear the alarm for 330, plan on seeing myself in Newport for the sunrise! that's actually what I'm hoping to see that early sitting on my board! clean and 4' cond are predicted so I can see myself right smack in what I call serenity! I can also see a few good washings as well as some good rides! I hope to see some boobys but its still a little early in the year! water 58 air 65! see myself smiling! PEACE! have a great long weekends boys!
Saw a guy suiting up to paddle out on his SUP- suiting up in a shorti spring suit! Either he is really good and not going to get wet... Or he had no clue that the water is still cold
It's my woman's birthday and we met some friends at a local country bar for a beer after dinner. Man, those fvckers will line dance to anything!!!!!! That was kind of funny.
Saw the same a few weeks ago...He was freezing and he kept telling his buddy, "I am freezing but its actually healthy to expose the body to low temps"...and actually is kinda true, but not the duration he was out there...He looked very uncomfortable but I gotta hand it to him, he was out for about an hour. No way could I last that long.
There was a sh!tty little sedan leaving my town with a board strapped to the roof with bugee cords, this is on route 1(turning into route 4) with everyone doing 65, that thing was totally about to take flight. Tourists are back!! My love/hate relationship living seaside. Hope you scored this morning Reddog, should have been fun out there.
Saw a bunch of morons posting on a SI site about funny things, which they weren't!! What bunch of morons!!!!
yes I did! At the beach at 5, left with a smile and played air drums all the way home! fugging love surfing!
Heading to the beach with wifey. Maybe bring back some stories. No board this time...Web cams showing it pretty flat. Glad I got out Thurs & Fri.
spring is always interesting due to the variety of wetsuit choices. Between Fri and Sat I observed the following: 4/3, 4/3 with boots, 4/3 w/boots & gloves, 5/4 w/hood (no boots or gloves?), s/s spring suit, l/s spring suit, no suit, 3/2, 3/2 w/boots, 3/2 w/boot & gloves, wetsuit top. variety is the spice of life!
lol pretty sure I know exactly where ur talking about, everyone chooses to surf the jetty side instead of walking up to where the pipe and open beach are. I havnt seen anything yet,i worked yesterday came home a bunch of dumbass drivers who don't know the speed limit and wont get out the fast lane.my one buddy came down to my pad we chilled burned some ganja, etc. was debating on going out, theres still a little wave out there but small and inconsistent.i just woke up too late didn't open my eyes til 11:30.the weekend is still young so I'm sure we will all witness some sh1t
Saw nothing noteworthy at the beach yesterday. VB's summertime policy of "dogs and surfers stay off the beach" was in effect. Ironically enough, this article was in the local paper: http://pilotonline.com/news/governm...cle_992f5928-122e-581a-998a-3f5117964a9d.html
