To any lifeguard I yelled at on 27th Street because I bodysurfed too close to the rock groin, I would like to apologize. http://www.chron.com/about/article/U-S-Coast-Guard-searching-for-missing-Galveston-11186970.php We already lost a swimmer this season. The story above has been updated on the Galveston Daily News website, but you have to subscribe (I do not) to see it. Found the dude dead. I sometimes get a little close to the rocks and get fussed at. There is a nice shallow place there that I like. However, I will try and understand how bad it would SUCK to have someone DIE while I was at work (if I was a lifeguard). It happens too much here. I can imagine being up there in the tower, scared to freakin death that some dufus is gonna go under, even in docile conditions, and just plain die. That would totally suck. Many of the guards here are pretty cool, and also surf. I usually get outa the wata and go talk to em if they're blowin their whistle at me, but I'm human, kinda. Sometimes I lose it, and go off. I apologize. Good luck out there, y'all.
I told the head lifeguard at Assateague off yesterday. Whistling us out of the swimming area when there was no one swimming at 10 o'clock on the nose. I yelled out ffff-uck you!!!! He tried to flag me in and I flipped him the bird.
I remember about 6-7 years ago, we had this thread on here where someone was posting about an altercation that had with a lifeguard, then the lifeguard (or someone pretending to be) got on here and the thread became one of the GOAT on this forum. I really should remember more about it. That thread really should have been in the HOF of this forum.
I almost wanna say it was Ocean City Maryland, maybe I'm wrong. I'll try and see if I can find it in the next few minutes before I leave.
Eatswell, I know we had one on here a while back where the lifeguard at Assateague got kicked by the horse. At least he said it was him. HA HA That was a funny video! Zippy is such a rebel! LOL
I'll have to look up that one about getting kicked by the horse. I did manage to find the other thread, it was in OCMD. I'm embarrassed I remembered that much about a 7 year old thread that I didn't even post in. https://www.swellinfo.com/forum/sho...eps-its-bounds&highlight=ocean+city+lifeguard
buddy was a lifeguard. as soon as someone died on his watch when he was trying to resuscitate 'em, he quit. you could imagine it'd be pretty difficult
In '94 the town decided to make the official surfing beach a swimming area. In protest and cuz it was the only beach with any wave me and 2 buddys paddled out. The lifeguards were furious when we didn't comply. Then some guy comes down and starts yelling and going off on us. My buddy told him to "fvck off". "Who the fvck are you, God" The guy said detective so-n-so. We stayed in the water until there was about 10 cops on the beach. When we got out we were handcuffed and taken away. The next beach over (Free Beach) where peopled partied and our local beach, well they all were on the jetty watching it all go down and as we were being cuffed and escorted off they all starting chanting "Die Cop Die!" It was pretty hilarious. Ended up having to pay a $300 dollar fine. But a year to the day hurricane Bertha came through. When it went offshore the cops were all over the place keeping surfers out of the water. I went a mile down the road where there were no cops, paddled out and over to The Pit. Proceeded to get some 15' footers and the whole cliff was lined with people and cops and cops on the beach with megaphone telling me to get out. I made sure to kick out early enough to paddle back out without coming in. After about an hour the cops gave up. A year to the mutha fvckin day. Ahhh redemption never tasted so good.
Was before my time here, but just breezed through it. You're right. Good sh!t in there. I think we're pretty fortunate here in Galveston. Our Beach Patrol crew is pretty cool for the most part. Some of em are pretty good on a board too.
It's the pigeons and the Jersey in me that makes me do it. I actually hate this time of year when the people that have been guarding the beaches and the bay through the hard winter are supposed to submit to poorly trained fat kids and an old kook "surfer" who manages them. My wife always sees it coming and comments to anyone who notices "uh oh, he's getting ornery again"
: Not sure what would have happened if I paddled in when he flagged me but I'm glad he gave up and drove away
