That's pretty suite! I'm hoping Rincon is my next trip, I figure I'll get there by 2026 or so! Haha.

My friend goes every year with a few other guys and they stay for like 3 weeks. I've been invited, but they go in February and my work schedule doesn't allow me to go.

February I hear can be really good, but I've been in late April and mid - late Oct. and scored in the offseason plenty. Jet Blue flies straight into Aguadilla, short drive from there.

in mexico and surrounding area its not even the local surfers u have to fear,u have to fear the local population aka the cartels lol.iv been wanting to go to mexico for a long time and still never made it,the fear is real and I'm infected.them aussies they found burnt to death in their van in mexico, thats the type of sh1t that happens.my guess would be places like cabo and Puerto are safe, but if u drive to cabo or Puerto, which many so cal surfers do I imagine it can get hairy real fast.as long as ur going and u don't see anyone since its desert out there its all good, but seeing the cops or any random vehicle trying to roll up on u in the middle of no where with no witnesses around....

I always wanted to go to pr too but it seems so crowded now and they have the same swell window as we do so ur leaving surf to go surf.i know a lot of Puerto Ricans too lol so I could stay with them if I decided to go.they don't surf tho.i know pr is dangerous,i knew a friend who I used to chill with in the Bronx, recently got found shot like 17 times and he was naked in pr.thats all there is to the story lol nobody knows nothing.and he was a pr too.i wouldn't be worried about the surfers, but say ur at a bar after the surf and u get into an argument with somebody,u might end up dead

I have almost a dozen times since the late nineties. Didn't go this year but did late season last year. Scored Middles & Jobos head high plus and Rincon 6'-8'.

I have never been where I didn't get it @ least 6'. Best trip I ever had was February and biggest I have ever had there or anywhere including Hawaii. 12'+ and at Tres when the swell started pushing 12'+ and more North than NW the worst beatings I have ever had. I printed the WAM for the trip because it was 2000 or 2001 & no computer access or cell then. Flew in solo & Colin Herlihy picked me up & I asked him how the waves were that afternoon & he said choppy waist to chest. I showed him the WAM model and said it has to be here overnight. Next morning stopped at Puntas bakery & after leaving & headed to Tres we got to the ballfields and corduroy lines as far as you could see north. Surfed all day until I couldn't paddle without cramping. 8' + for the next couple of days. Went to fly home and the airlines were on strike. Stuck for 2 days and the airline employees at aguadilla had went in my bag changed the locks after taking 3 of my cameras including water with all the film of the trip. As bummed as I was about the gear the 20+ rolls of film of the trip hurt worse. As good as the waves were though I would make the sacrifice.

    Cep. do it brah.
Been goin to PR almost every year for the last 10.
Only problems i've ever had was in the water once. And i've been to some seedy bars down there.
Flying down the line at Wildos and some Rican from San Jaun for the weekend dropped in on me and as I was passing him dude ate **** causing us both to eat it. Dude came up goin off on me. Then an Aguadilla local came right over and sent the dude packin.
Other than having a cell phone stolen from my car (my own fault) and a rat in one of my rentals eating a roll of $100 dollar bills, i've never had problems.
In fact the worst was a rental car company. Went through 4 cars in 3 weeks. Make sure you rent from a intl company at the airport.
Nothing like paddling out at Surfers at dawn. 80 degree crystal blue Caribbean water to the sounds of Coquis and tropical birds with the clockwork rainbow and humpbacks breaching then dropping into an overhead rippable wall.
It gets crowded but alot of spots can handle a crowd, and there's alot of spots within a short radius.
The only downside is the non surfing Puerto Ricans. They don't know how lucky they are. They sh!t on their island. Obnoxious litterbugs.
Oh yeah. If it's flat, it boring as hell.
Do it brah! 5 weeks this winter and didn't surf for only 5 days. 2 of em cuz I was surfed out.
Everything from waist to chest fun fuk around days to 15' balls in your throat pull out the rhino chaser days.
Ahh I could go on and on.

Yeah, forgot to mention the 1st day at Tres I was staying with my buddy who lives there full time his car was stolen in Rincon overnight. Woke up and walked to Puntas and some friends said they saw the car going towards Aguadilla around 2am. Walked to Maria's and got the car from a cow pasture the next day.

    Still an awesome trip though.

I had 4 days off this February and was going to do it, but the flights from Newark and JFK just really didn't make sense for me. They were at weird ass times, which would have been okay if I had 2 or 3 more days to spare. My return flight wouldn't have landed until about 2 or 3 hours before I had to be back for work. One of the flights down there left around 2:00 AM our time and that was just awful for me and took out an entire day for me as it was. I couldn't make the 2:00 AM flight the morning before because I was still working at that particular hour.

never had any problems in puerto rico. broke my board at middles clean in half and bought the 6'4 i took to hawaii at froggys surf shop by surfers beach.

drove from coast to coast with my girl and parked my sh i tty y car on my buddies succesful weedfarm and flew to the north shore of oahu the same year. it was after the eddie swell. stank was there an i was a little b i tch
he met me there with a gun and i paddled out at waimiea and couldnt catch one.

proceeded to keep my head down the rest of my 3 weeks there. caught some of the best waves of my life and never had a single problem with locals. show respect get it.

    oregon is a different story.
    everyone sucks at surfing
    the waves suck.

if you come here prepare to get shot, eaten by a shark, or have your windshield wipers stolen during a worse storm then sandy that comes fives times a winter,

(try driving home in 120mph winds, pouring rain and a snagly highway that washes out with no detours for 50 miles with no wiper blades)
hope you like your hair wet and your eyes burning from sticking your head out the window

no matter how much respect you show, you are an enemy unless you prove different.

    god bless america

Yeah, flight times to Aguadilla usually are red eye in my experience but they change times every now and then, so keep an eye on that. Unless you fly into San Juan, which offers more flight options but then you have that long drive to deal with when you get there.

Yeah Aguadilla flight times aren't convenient for those of us on tight schedules. Did the San Juan flight and drive west last year. The drive does suck but we were a late afternoon flight so dinner and no rush to get to waves makes it easier.

There's surf in and around San Juan but they get easily blown out to the trade winds.
Several really good waves though. Chatarra being one minutes from San Juan. You just have to be vigilant with checking the local weather forecast and always get up and be at the spot of choice early to avoid crowds and wind. Some spots it's not uncommon to have guys paddle out before the sun comes up.
Funny story. Once I was staying at Crash Boats/Gas Chambers and on a big North swell I got up at like 4:30 and figured i'd be the first in the water at Crash Boats. Walked down on the pier in pitch black darkness and waited to see any signs of swell when I heard voices. The dawn revealed that there was already 4 spongers on it.
From San Juan to Aguadilla is aprox 2 1/2 hours and is one straight shot.
