I agree 100%. Physically we're not far from hunter gatherers. Mentally/emotionally we're far removed. The sentient being argument is a little stretch. I'd say that most vertebrates and most mammals are some degree of sentient beings. Whether the "all knowing" human being is able to see or understand it is something for you to think about. The mammals you named are at the top of the intelligence level for animals. Still there are many highly intelligent, even sentient, animals in your grocery store and on every menu.

Not sure if this copy and paste does much for your argument other than highlight the wastefulness of hunting. I'm against that. I don't think the elephant was wasted. Maybe it was but I bet it wasn't.

 

Apples and oranges here. Marine mammals and elephants/apex predators on land are not in the same category. There are "protected" marine areas but come on, it is the ocean, not a well regulated piece of land named the Good Luck Farm. These animals are on farms and reserves so they can have an environment that suits their needs and people can live in the general vicinity too. These people don't have to worry (as much) about a herd of elephants eating their crops and trashing their farmlands or a rogue bull elephant rampaging through their huts. Guess who really kills animals... a scared group of people who just had their people trampled and their homes destroyed. Thats the way you see a whole herd destroyed.

99% of the time animals are the victims. This is a 1% situation where the hunter is on the victims list too.

Nevertheless, there are jobs that come from the preserve/farm and other monies spent from a foreigner coming to an area that would have no travelers otherwise. A fraction of the GDP goes to a fraction of the population that is involved in this. Economies of scale here, yank, generalizations from Dr. Rose make a point if you're not willing to think.

 

A couple post ago I wrote, "most likely, they were going after the young bulls that were dangerous and a threat to the other elephants, farm and local communities." This is how it should go. I'm not up on the lion hunts but the boss shouldn't get killed. The young dudes coming in trying to knock off Mufasa should be the target. Who was the hunter that killed Mufasa though?

As far as the wolves go, and the "need to be hunted" of course there isn't. Meat eating mammals generally do not taste good and the population of MI isn't benefiting from the meat. The Africans that live around these preserves usually do. Maybe not this time due to the recent glut of elephant meat, hopefully they have good freezers.

Here's my point. IMO, a person's life is more valuable than an animal's. I completely understand that you don't share the same belief. I'm sorry that's been your experience.

I've got no problems with hunting animals to eat them.

I personally don't do it, as I don't even feel comfortable killing bugs sometimes.

I'll eat some deer meat that was hunted, if someone puts it in my face.

Are you a cannibal or open to the idea of it? Hunt humans for sport? What about hunting humans for food? You're a complete maniac. So no difference between killing and hunting these animals you listed and a human? You don't see the fanatical point of view you have? Funny how people like you then come on the internet and preach/judge like you know it all and have some kind of higher moral authority. So how is killing a pig for food different? Actually numerous studies have shown pigs to be more intelligent than dogs. Pigs are also social creatures. Ask anyone who owns a pet pig. Is a pig a sentient creature? Or maybe you like pork too much? So you won't put it on your list?

I always find it funny watching meat eaters who want to hate on hunters bend over backwards and twist logic to fit their own narrative. You don't need meat to survive. You eat it for pleasure. Flipping out because someone hunts an animal and saying it's no different than killing a human while you eat a big mac is absurd hypocrisy.

I'm actually personally against the elephant hunting, but I wouldn't for a second say I hoped for the hunter's death. I don't judge people who eat meat either, never mind hope for their death. There is zero comparison between murdering a human and killing an animal. People are are more important than animals. Sorry, but no comparison. Terrorists killing people in Britain is MUCH worse than the trump kids going trophy hunting killing Jaguars. There is not a moral equivalency between animals and humans. And the meat from that elephant is harvested and the elephant could careless why it was shot and there's a hunting limit.

Morally, there is little difference if any at all.
