Dude, the money is saying that global warming is fake and getting paid by the energy to say it. The exact same tactics the tobacco industry used are being played out by the energy sector. BTW, my brother inlaw is a climate scientist and makes like 80k. I will make sure to let him know he is supposed to be rich. Too funny.

 

not sure what you're getting at. I didn't say climate researchers should be rich, i said there is a lot of grant money out there supporting the research, and therefore drives the direction of the science. Ask your brother in law how many charitable trusts and university's are funding research in mainstream climate change impacts vs. research in non-mainstream areas. Its supporting a lot of people making 80K.

 

So let me get this right. The government subsidizes oil and gas, they go to war over oil, yet they pay scientists to say global warming's real and we have to give up oil and gas.

So I've learned a couple of things during these 16 pages, some of which have been somewhat informational while the rest has been typical SI swine fare:

1) very few if any (myself included) have read what is actually *in* the Paris agreement, but have come out guns a blazing with little regard to actual facts. At least I attempted to tread lightly on the subject and not choose sides.

I will take the time to try and find a non-partisan source to study the Accord. I recommend everybody who hasn't yet done so to follow suit.

2) this thread was started with a simple question about CC, and to attempt to not stray into making it a political discussion.

Yeah that lasted for a page or 2. I wish Vegas made book on this board, I'd be as wealthy as Musk or Trump.

I'll be reading up to make more informed decisions.

Hogwash. From a scientific point of view, NASA s outer space probes have given us fantastic information, Hubble telescope and follow up are still giving us amazing data. Putting men in outer space is a waste of time, and a huge waste of money. My only hope is to live long enough to watch that stupid space station come crashing down on Putins head.
Once again, if putting humans in space is the goal, that is again..pride-waste of time , money and resources.
So, to refute your "opinion", facts are that the last 40 years have yielded a lot for us.

What is in the Accord is irrelevant--it is based on:
1) False science (politically motivated), bad methodology, one sided only.
2) An attempt to give other countries money in exchange for loyalty. Fvck the other 190 signatees; they just want their portion of the bribe to pave new roads and pay for the Syrians (muslims) they are importing. It is a giant scam by globalists, nothing more, based on bad science. Never forget, the original Obamacare guy (Gruber of MIT) stated scamming Americans is easy because of their stupidity (witness fungus, etc). You will buy into anything even with paltry data. This is a similar scam. Resist it at all costs.

Once again, all opinion. If Elon hasn't been "kicking in" where is the money going from the Tesla's he has already sold? Or the cash from the 450,000 Model 3 presales? That money just disappeared?

I am only pointing out that Elon is no different that most major corporations when it comes to subsidies. Like I have said numerous times before, either NO ONE gets subsidized or everyone does. You cannot pick and choose.
I am not deflecting the argument, I just wonder why you guys only harp on Elon. Why not chastise Shell, GE, Lockheed Martin, etc.

As far as SpaceX, like I said he is taking govt contracts and I guess now that is a bad thing too....He isn't taking subsidies, there is a difference. If you have a problem with government contracts then you have a long list of people to be pissed at before Elon. The Military Industrial complex has been raking int hat cash for years.
