However, wouldn't such a plan be better instituted and served by insurance companies such as Cigna, Aetna et al as opposed to the government dreaming up haphazard and expensive plans to subsequently force on providers and their clients?

Its easy to say that when you don't have a family member with cancer, a child born with a heart defect, etc. Its easy not care about "them", but when its someone you know and love, its different. Americans should not die because they can't afford healthcare. I am not saying Obamacare is the right answer, but saying you don't get healthcare unless you can afford it is wrong.

There is a cost to being american. We pay money for security (military/police), roads, school etc. The rich pay more than the poor because they benefit the most from being american. If you want to keep all that you make and not pay anything for common use, you should leave and go somewhere you can keep everything and not share. I prefer to have a government that provides things for the public... if you call that stealing, then you are the dumb one.

Taxation with representation is the compact which our republic was built. It recognizes the value of government. That it works for the people, for their common gooode. But the point I am making is that our government is useful in many cases, albeit far from perfect.
