Beachbreak, winter months in CFL and it's not a far ride from Palm Beach which has been on my surfing bucket list -reef rd. only reason i'd consider NFL year round is because i'm not too deep into FL. i read the news, sht gets weird in FL - i wouldn't want to be in the middle of it

Sounds like Palm Coast. Nice infrastructure, great home values, golf courses, marinas, and near I-95. 5 minutes from Flagler Beach, a consistent, and picturesque uncrowded surf spot, and you're 30 minutes to Ponce Inlet, another cool spot to surf, not too crowded on the north side. NSB is another 15 minutes drive south if you want access to the most consistent break in the the state. And it's pretty laid back up there in Palm Coast/Flagler Beach.. Excellent fishing too.

And crime. Used to be all run down. But now there are some inroads. Much nicer in parts than its reputation.

Yea... I spend a week there tooling around one winter. Was really happy with the surf potential and the access to other stuff to do. Another beautiful place was even further north... the Amelia/Talbot area. I thought it was a pretty amazing place, and would definitely live there. Lots of natural areas... kind of wild for still being so close to Jax.

I don't do gardens, boats, inland, and i do bad arthritic hips and crippled foot, so water temp is important, and popup is a bigger struggle on bigger waves, but nfla is not too cold. I walk or bike to beach 5 min or less all my life, not and cannot go inland, and so we like the little beach community there on atlantic blvd/neptune -atlantic beach. I need to look around, revisit indialantic, st augustine area, etc., and feel out those beach communities. Flagler sounds worth a look. You need to spend time in a place first and think it through, not just blind all willy nilly.

I don't sit with the pack, the bars can be goodly spread out, and i like off hours, so the times i have had fun surf there crowd zero problem. It is good.

I am thrilled with all of these helpful responses. Thank you. I am not surprised. Having only visited/surfed there a handful of trips, florida is intriguing and amazing. I love how SI has so many people here from amelia/fernandina on down, all making very convincing arguments! Here in jersey most people wrongly assume there is not much surf in fla, but o contraire! Every time we go we score. This thread could go on forever. Being able to retire and go warmer after 54 winters freezing is a blessing, and i clearly have a lot of choices to narrow it down to.a nice problem to have. I love the debate as well! Once again SI. There is wisdom in many counselors.

If you have money, Ponte Vedra Beach is a good choice too.

I'm surprised nobody is mentioning the Stuart area. Based on not than many trips south (but enough to convince myself it wasnt just random luck), all in the winter, the zone from walton rocks, stuart rocks, Hobe seems like where i always find the best waves. Far enough south to be warm all winter, far enough north to pull in swell out of the E and NE, and the rock/reef bottom seemed like it held up waves with better shape than the sand bottom up in Melbourne and Cocoa.

I surf Jensen Beach and North Hutchinson Island, they are nice beach and reef breaks there. Stuart Rocks is a hassle, still to this day.

But don't move there. Too many bridges, too much traffic. Also, the green algae coming out of Lake O during the summer, big thick mats of toxic algae, makes the fish die off, and waterfront living a cesspool. Property values are down, especially along the St Lucie River.

Hobe Sound is nice, but boooooring. Some like that. The water is spookey, but the waves are pretty good, and uncrowded (que up the Jaws music).

I remember a place called Sampertons, an old restaurant/motel, it's been torn down 10 years ago. But there is a reef behind there. Somewhere north of Archie's State Park. I can't figure out exactly where it is anymore.

Arch has his own state park? That sum b*tch! HAHA Yeah, there's a few spots that have some of that coquina rock reef, there doing construction on one up around Satellite as we speak, be interesting to see how it affects things when they're done. What's there already is pretty good and grooms the waves nicely. My favorite spot in the area is all sand though, but its' nicely packed sand, not soft and shifty like some other spots Mitchell may be referring to.
