Does anyone know when this suit is gonna be available? I thought it was suppose to be released in mid 07?? Lates!
I think i read that by next winter (08) they should be good to go. there were a few kinks they needed to work out still. Retail is going to be anywhere from $800-$1200. word on the street
Have you ever ONCE owned anything that ran on batteries where you didn't run down the batteries from overuse, or wished they held a charge better, or forgot to charge, or didn't hold a charge in cold weather? think cell phones, cam corders, digi cams, you name it.... I wouldn't go chucking the 5/3 too fast. Backups never a bad idea.
Good Point!! Didn't think about that. Guess i'll just have to keep the 5/3 as backup. Never wanted a Ripcurl before. Till now..Hopefully, Ripcurl will get all the kinks out before it is released.
Not Trust'n It! I give Mother Nature alot of respect when it comes to cold water surfing. I spend signifacant time outside in the cold of Minnesota working and playing. I have had great times surfing in below zero air temps and 33* water. With the risks and dangers of being exposed to the extreme cold, I don't want to bank on batteries. http://www.capital.net/com/nckayak/nck_safety_p4.htm I'll bank on building up exposure limits. http://scuba-doc.com/coldacclim.html
If the batteries don't wear out, it will propably electrocute you!!! Things have come a long way since the early days
Ya I was read Surfing magazine a couplea months ago and read that they tested it out in antartica! I know mags sometimes strech the truth but the were diving off iceburgs into the lineup and getting slotted in head-high barrels. Meanwhile, just the thought of doing that in the wetsuit i hav now gave me brain-freeze. My guess is that this is the real deal.
Retail is going to be anywhere from $800-$1200. word on the street[/QUOTE] why would anyone spend that much on a suit when you would only use it during like the 4 swells during the winter
Why would u nly use it 4 times?...if i had a freaking HOT wetsuit to get into i'd just about use it all year. I'd sure as hell be using it by now and right though april if its a nice flexible 3/2.... If it costs as much as multiple plane tickets to the tropics forget it....
yet another gimmick for the corporate surf industry to make money off of "new technology" i can see it now, plug in your wetsuit to your cig lighter to charge battery, along with your waterproof ipod and waterproof cell phone. if i ever see any of the fore mentioned at my break, they're gettin stuffed, and shown the way to the parking lot. continuation of the bastardization of the sport angers me.
A heated "wet" suit makes about as much sense as. . . the electric potato peeler they sold a few Christmas' back. Sort of overkill, eh? All things considered, that kind of money would be better spent traveling to warmer water and climates. Zzzzzzztttttt! Electric Shock Therapy.
Worth it? H-Bombs are out. $1000 for a 3/2 and $1100 for a 4/3. Has anyone tried it? I'm moving to Netherlands in January so thinking about getting one for the cold North Sea. PS - WRV in Va Beach has them & everything's on sale at 15% off, think through the weekend.
just ordered mine went to that demo thing they were doing a few weeks agoa dn tried it on and my parents asked if i liked it and i said yes so we ordered on in the 3/2 ill be glad when it comes so i will be able to surf as long as i want until the battery runs out. if your wondering if my parents are stupid no they are not they just love me more ever since my sister graduated from college we have more money. also i have very rich family and they too helped pay for it as a christmas gift and im still gonna get stuff for christmas.
word on the street: The rip curl rep stopped by K-Coast a 2 weeks ago and was showing it off. He may have left a suit at the shop for display. Pretty sure K-Coast isn't planning of sellin it yet ( costs over a grand) So theyyyy may stilll have it,if u wanna peek it.
For only $100 more, seems like a no brainer to get the 4/3, right? How do you think this suit would compare to a 6/5/4 in terms of warmth? Think the H-bomb would be comparable or significantly better? I've looked on Rip Curl's website and it seems like they've done a lot of testing - electronic and saltwater testing to prevent corrosion, testing the electromagnetic field with sharks, and battery testing. Guess it's going to be a gamble to see how well this thing stands the test of time. Would be a shame if the heating unit stopped working or if the batteries went kaput. $1000 is a LOT of money....
