Back in the 70s when King Richard ruled, it was crash em up derby, then they'd duke it out afterwards. My Dad took my Mom and us kids to PB Raceway and Leroy Yarborough hit the wall and debris sprayed the crowd, and Mom put the kibosh on future race outings. It's way more fun in person, plus all the drunk redneck chicks are awesome.
Yes, originally PBIR, then Moroso, now its Palm Beach Speedway I think. Sunday Sunday Sunday!!!! When I was 10 the Rolling Stones played there, too young to go - I missed it by 3 or 4 years. I read it monsooned and everyone got stuck out in the swamp off the Beeline for 3 days. Here is a link to see the poster https://blog.postercentral.com/2015...lling-stones-janis-joplin-jefferson-airplane/
It's PBIR now (and maybe back then too?). They cancelled the Led Zeppelin concert there in 1975 because they were afraid of riots. Good times.
If from North Carolina and have been to a ton of races...therefore I approve of this threade. The first race I ever went to was in Charlotte, I think in 89'. We sat WAY to close to the track... big mistake. Back then, all the rednecks would throw their chicken wings and budweisers down to the front, so we had beer and chicken grease sailing closely overhead, and black rubber from the tires shooting at us from the front. My dad learned then that NASCAR is best observed from above, not from up close. In my older years, I've gotten into F1. I like Hamilton and liked Alonso. Barry probably isn't surprised, as I also like soccer... fits right in with my pinko, european views on everything else.
Nope... never snitched. Only thing I ever said, and I did it publicly, is I could not believe White Sea Ape was not banned. I think banning him was right. I got infractions during that whole thing too.
Alonso was cool. Used to have a buncha Schumaker gear back in the day - still like the idea that Ferrari is king. Also excited for EPL starting back up, looking forward to Sunday EPL games n SuperCups. i'm a BVB Dortmund fan, cuz i'm Polish. Speaking of Polish, Keselowski is my fav driver in NapCar. He's great to hate n drives like a boss - at least that's what i hear
Today's a rough day... Countinho put in a transfer request... seems Barca is coming for Dembele too. Dortmond is my favorite German team.
What trips me out is Hondas have won the Indy 500 like 3 years in a row. first gear, it's all right ....faster faster
It's like Calvinball, each year they screw with it more. No one really knows the rules, they are jumping the shark with points for 1/3 race leaders, it's gotten fruity.
Yeah, going to NASCAR events is actually way more fun than watching on TV. I went to Pocono and Dover a few times with my cousin, back when he was still alive. He was the kind of guy that watched it every Sunday, and would tape it and watch it out of real time, so that he could fast forward through all the commercials and filler during the cautions. Dover is the better track to see a race live, as it's only a mile long and there's no real obstructions with the sight lines, you have a view of the whole track. Pocono is over 2 miles and it sucks when they're on the opposite side of the track. You can't see ****. We usually take my nephews to Wall Stadium once every Summer. It's only 10 minutes away from my house. You could actually hear the cars over at Wall Stadium on Saturday night, if you sit out on my front stoop or in the backyard. You can hear a faint roar in the distance, it's definitely from the speedway. My hearing is starting to badly deteriorate, but I can stlll hear it on Saturday nights when I listen for it. They always seem to close every few years and the track is always in jeopardy. I'm trying to get on their website right now to check their schedule so that we could go before the end of the Summer. Hope it didn't close again. The site isn't working.
Wakins Glenn is a awesome place to hang out, camp and watch the races. My dad is a huge race fan. I can tolerate it and will go just to spend time with him, but am not a huge fan myself. Nascar goes there but i much prefer watching the prototypes and other types of races over nascar. Porsche, bmw, mini coops, and a whole bunch of other cars. It being a long road track is awesome. Walking the track and watching from all diffrent areas. It's a good time. Plus it's a pretty low key place. You can just walk right through the garages and pit area and talk to drivers and stuff
Yeah my dad and his brother were the same way. They loved to watch it on TV and go to the races, so I'd go with them. Was always a fun time, even though I haven't actively watched NASCAR on TV since the early 80's, when I was in jr. high. NASCAR fans in Jersey were really uncommon back then, and probably still are from what I'd imagine. In my own life, I've owned 4 Mustangs, 2 of which I currently have. A Camaro and dirt/street bikes. So I've always been into performance cars and bikes, but I don't get much out of watching NASCAR on TV. I gotta be honest, I'm not big on the road course tracks and Watkins Glen is one of them. If my cousin were still alive, maybe we'd go up and check it out for the experience. I've also been to Daytona quite a few times for the July night race. I actually went the last 3 years before this, while taking an annual two week vacation in Florida to see family. Didn't go to Florida this Summer though.
