Under the morning darkness of a new moon footsteps were heard pacing up and down the hallway. The smell of stale air and rubber tends to jog memories of those early mornings. I can see my breath, the radiator hasn't been tapping it's usual dance, it feels colder than usual.
Pulling myself from my cold damp bed i quickly put a jacket and hat on before journeying into the hallway. A drug induced panic has appearently left the other in my space walking in a rotating sequence of confusion. I quietly pass him to start the coffee. The smell of cheap burnt coffee fills the air and i headed to the living room to pull down my still damp 6/5/4 hanging over the broken radiator. I gathered myself and quickly thought to fill my thermos with hot water for the inevitable.
The next thing I remember is twilight starting to illuminate the road that goes north. I start to pass familiar streets, cliffs, and Senic coves filled with white and blue boats sitting perfectly still on the glassy waters. The heat is cranked and my legs feel as though they're burning. I tell myself "it's for the best" as my wetsuit sits in the passenger seat like a friend on the journey.
Suddenly like a breath of fresh air I've arrived. Bundled in all I have I exit my warm metal box and step up to the retaining wall. Often I've found myself shortly after hopping back in and going to the next cove that is a slightly different direction. Not today. It's perfect, glassy, long lines coming in over the horizon just before the sun crests the sea. I may have shed a tear at the same time my soul became fire and my body was relieved of its frigid state.

    Best

PS: I've decided to call it "My Birthday in New England."

    Question... do you know Barry??

Also, couldn't you have waited a little while to start mentioning rubber, 6/5/4, car heater etc.. we still got a few more weeks left before we gotta start thinking of that again!! Kinda don't want to be reminded yet lol

    And oh yea... paragraphs bro.

    Otherwise I liked it...

Paragraphs are for people who are not day drinking and surfing. PS: just had a great session with a wave that was absolutely not forecasted to be there. Love when everyone sees red and says not going... later to find out it was chest high, chunky, fun, and empty... would you guys teach me how to use paragraphs? I honestly have zero education on the English language.... I'm a musician they seem to think that teaching us to read and write is a waste of time unless it's a foreign language.

Sorry to remind you... I just bought a new 5/4/3 and the fresh rubber sent me into a reminescent mood. I feel like I have surfed alongside Barry at some point. I moved away from NE awhile back and now I surf near and around you more often.. I'm colorblind is your longboard blue or purple? Looking good here the next couple days. Probably worth heading south on Tuesday evening.

Nice. Brought back memories of a February dawn patrol. The smell of cheap coffee and the road that goes north invoked thoughts of heading out Rt. 6 to the outer Cape, although sounds like you were in NH or ME.

P.S. I added some extra line breaks for ya.

Well honestly I had a rough basement apartment in Revere MA a couple blocks from Shirley Ave. For some reason in the winter there was no ventilation and the whole apartment would be damp... The whole place was rough, crack heads, heroine, angel dust. I used to sit on the porch and listen to stories from the older guys in the neighborhood of all their years smuggling for big boys in NYC. Couple of the people said they were friends with the guys "The Town" was based on. Good times living there... rough but good.
