Ohhh - I thought this was the annual farewell and goodbye to all those seasonal surfers... since surfing season is technically closed at midnight tonight... Sorry, don't mean to hyjack your threade- but goodbye to all my summer surfing buddies... see you next year down in the Belmar - on the patio at Djais. #saltlife #teamwavestorm
My preferred summer spot was invaded this year by summer kooks. Typically attracts a few but this year was ridiculous. I join you Belmar in waving goodbye to those jerk offs.
Our tradition is to sit outside at Levari's on RT 50 and Tuckahoe road and watch the procession as it passes by, heading west. We sit there and drink until around 9 PM. Trucks hauling all matter of things; boats, RVs, wave runners, SUPS, Kayaks, bicycles all strapped to the roof. Slowly, sadly, headed West. Fare Thee well until Memorial Day of 2018, fare thee well.
Looking forward to surfing Cape Ann when the surf is good and not just when the surf is good before 9 or after 5. Transitioning back to heavier fall/winter suites sucks though.
I actually look forward to it. The best surfing seasons here. And wetsuit thickness has no effect on me at all. Maybe you ought to consider moving to a tropical location.....not said in jest. Think about it--you would be "less miserable". I thought of it 2 years ago, but for me, it was the "been there, done that" saying that kept creeping up. Settled on buying a house on coastal NH, and just take trips to tropics when needed, added to....never again complaining about wetsuits or cold climes (this last point is often hard to achieve!!).
Buddy, check your posting history if you want to see miserable. Putting on a rash guard is easier than a spring suite. Putting on a spring suite is easier than a full suite. Putting on gloves and boots (and then drying them) is an extra step vs just getting out of the car and paddling out or getting out of the water and into the car. Nothing to do with the wave quality, just the hassle factor. I'll happily surf through the end of the year and then take ski season off. Tropics are nice and all but there's not much skiing in CR and I like winters that kill off lots of bug born illnesses.
Me? Miserable?? far from it....my posts are all in jest. You are just one of the very few that doesn't recognize humor, visible in your post above. Hassles?? What hassles?? With wetsuits?? Goes with the territory, I assume--same goes with ski gear, etc. And you have "bug borne illnesses" for which you need winter?? Okey dokey.....
There are no bugs in the #belmar... just everyone remember that for summer 2018 when thinking of a resort town to spend your summer 2018(which happens to have the next waves in the US) That's right, warm weather, warm water- and no bugs or mosquitos! #belmar
I know! Just in time for surf season! Where were the lifeguards last Thursday to save us from the big scary surf? Apparently when school starts, lifesaving stops.
Fully back this! Keep them out of Manasquan and other Southern Monmouth County/Northern Ocean County beach towns! Even though I quite like surfing Belmar myself! I rode my bike last night down the Manasquan beachwalk, which is restricted except between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, except for the hours between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM. I always found it kind of weird that it wasn't between 12:00 AM and 9:00 AM but whatever. I swear that every year, I see a bunch of state police ride their bikes on the walk (off duty) and laugh when the beach patrol tells them it's not allowed.
