They're predicting a 20' plus storm surge with this one. Get the heck out of there... For reference, Sandy's surge was 9' on top of tides... so about 15' total. Katrina was around 25'.
heard it could possible rake the coast from florida up to de, may not make landfall in FL, but maybe sc or nc...shift to the east...Iam sure it will keep changing every 6 hurs, just like Mathew. 2-3 days out...ok. Beyond that, who the hell knows.
"Four of the strongest buildings on the Caribbean island of St. Martin have been destroyed by Hurricane Irma"- CNN Holy ****. This is terrifying. Take heed and get the F out of the path if you can.
DP, Betty, SiSurf and all the rest of my fellow Floridians....stay safe out there. I lived in Hialeah during Andrew and after the **** I saw, this one has me pretty nervous. Nothing but good vibes to all of you!
Just here to +1 all the positive vibes for our SI southerners. Be smart and stay safe. Hopefully this thing takes a turn for the East*. Can't dodge a natural disaster, but you can be preemptive in your preparations and plan.
Path still uncertain, lets hope that this one makes the unlikely curve out to sea.. for the sake of you guys in Florida and the Carolinas, and for me in Long Island for epic bombing surf!
Looks like I'll be the first here to take the hit if she comes in. If Irma follows the current NHC track exactly the eye will pass over us. If so, I'm gonna crawl out of the rubble and get a picture taken in my "In the Eye" surfboards t-shirt. The last several forecast track updates have been shifting to the east. I am hoping that trend continues as it would spare us from the worst of it. We're still four days away and a lot can and probably will change. To illustrate that, here's the forecast track for Matthew last year at a similar time out. It ended up going a lot further west than this:
South Carolina under a state of emergencee. always good news to hear Jim Cantore is coming to your city, wonder who he's going to knee in the balls this time (nah that wasn't me). this is all work is talking about, what a waster of a week here. surf starts tomorrow. Waxed one of the boards yesterday, prolly need to do the same for a couple others tonight. 'Cane Matthew sucked here before it touched down, i'm not trying to miss out on the after with this storm - shall know i guess Friday
If Cantore comes to your town the hurricane is gonna hit somewhere else. Guaranteed. He always is a little ways away from the worst of it.
Thanks bro. I hope the SqG is still standing. I'll pop by for a celebratory drink next week if we are so lucky. To all the mermaids out there, keep blowing this one back out to sea.
Or the Bounty. The captain was senile, I swear. He was anchored off Peanut Island during the Spring of 2012, before he headed up north, before he went right into Sandy. When he was on Peanut Island, he was being an irrational blowhard, accused the curator of the maritime museum of stealing his tee shirts he had for sale.
just know fellow Floridians that the worst part of the storm is near the eye,the purple/black blob in the middle.the bands aren't too bad, still bad because u know its a ****in hurricane but not catastrophic. I cant really say I have a lot of experience with hurricanes because we never get hit with 1 here in the northeast, just sandy.and sandy wasn't that bad imo,til it got to the purple blob/outside eye part.thats when things got scary.my town took a direct hit from the dark blob, and in 10 minutes had like 5' of water and telephone poles and stuff drifting down the street.it hit like 9pm and I walked my dog like an hour earlier and the sky had the craziest clouds and it was a little windy, nothing crazy.didnt even rain.it was the surge that caused all the destruction
