Idk but my wife said there was a line of people and all were buying nothing but beer. Yep sure do! For now at least.
Waiting for the wind to calm down some before I set up my generator. Went and sat in my car to charge my phone and get some a/c. Took a quick reconne spin around the neighborhood. Trees and branches down but nothing crazy. But just like in Wilma across the street a block away they have full power. fml.
We're getting the worst rain / wind band we've gotten so far. A wind gust came through that I thought was gonna do some damage but nope, nothing happened. The oak tree in my back yard hangs over the lake. That thing was bending but didnt break. It's about on par with what Matthew delivered wind wise, but this is heavier rain for sure.
I don't know how much more rain the lake can handle, it's higher than we've ever seen it in two years and we have another 12-18hrs of off and on rain to go. Street has some flooding but not major yet.
Storm is easing up but still getting some solid gusts. Little Honda generator is kicking out some AC watts so we've got some lights, refrigerator and, most important, a/c to sleep in. Hope everybody else gets through no worse than we did.
Just lost power in St pete but things are looking much better than they were forecast wise just a few hours earlier. The eye is just below us but we are on the favorable wind side
Not that unusual, I think. Hurricanes cut a wide swath, was always my impression. Some more than others. You were wise to evacuate. Peace.
as they weaken they grow larger in diameter a large part of the southeast is getting the remnant effects now..weather looks to be improving in florida slowly, as far a power hard to tell, can only compare to hugo and in some areas it was 3-4 weeks before restoration http://www.intellicast.com/Local/WxMap.aspx?basemap=0014&layers=0040,0039,0017
Weather is fine in SE Florida. It's clean up time. According to FLL our power has been restored. It probably would be if a large branch from a ficus tree didn't get tangled in the lines and pop the fuse to our local transformer. There's power down the block and across the street. Generator is keeping us comfortable. I really would like to go to the beach but the wife would kill me if I went right now. Maybe later. We were very lucky. This could have been so much worse.
Well we made it through without any serious damage. The lake in our backyard filled up and almost flooded our yard and house but the rain stopped just in time. The trees in our yard left enough debri for me to fill up 10 large trash bags . There's large branches broken and hanging from the oak trees. A couple roof tiles were found in the yard. A little snake was hiding on our front porch and tried to bite me but I swept him to the gutter and he slithered off. The neighbors small / medium oak tree fell over on the other neighbors house, but doesn't look too bad but the whole root system came out of the ground. We lost electricity several times but it came back on within minutes so we never really went without. DirecTV signal was in and out so we managed to catch some football games and watch the weather channel between outages. Overall we were very lucky. The wind and rain was pretty intense for a good portion of the evening. Gusts up to 90-100 I would guess on the NE quadarant of the storm. We got more of it than one would think given where it made landfall but the size of the storm put us right in the thick of it. My family and friends along the Gulf and Tampa Bay Area all came out unscathed. So fortunate. So much luck had to happen for all of us to be so fortunate.
Flying home Wednesday to no power. May take a week or two since am on a rural grid with only four houses. Lost power in Atlanta in a big squall, now back up. Neighbor is cutting up a tree blocking my driveway, so sweet! Outside looks okay. Hoping no leaks inside. FB videos show fish swimming on US 1 .
