Since the moderators have this forum I thought I'd open it up to us lowly users as well... not only because I'm always curious as to what's in a moderator forum but also for the slight confusion it might cause. Let's hear the opinions
pretty crazy there isn't a treade about the vegas shooting,i was expecting 30 pages of content by the time I got out of work. and tom petty just died
Thanks for opening up this discussion to us lowly, non-infraction giving, peasants. Swell of the year: Jose/Maria. They basically overlapped down here giving weeks of good surf. Can't remember getting more solid surf in boardshorts, maybe ever. This September was historic to say the least.
Without a doubt in my mind... Gert. At least for me. That was the one that hit around the middle/end of August, with all of the elements coming together at my local.
Man, Gert feels like a year ago. There has been so many waves since August I can hardly even remember her
all of the above. what a great few weeks. look at the cams rn and can't believe it's the same places. EC was lit up for four+ weeks straight.
Gert 1000 times over for me personally, one of the best days of surfing I've ever had, all factors considered (size, conditions, length of rides, time in the water, temperature, friends surfed with). But probably Winter Storm Stella in terms of pics/video clips that I found online and sent to people who don't live here to show what jersey is capable of. I didn't even have the balls to paddle out that day though (I can pretend it's because Monmouth county never really cleaned up until just before dark, but I know the real story).
Gert was like losing my virginity. that first pumping swell. You never forget that first one. Jose/Maria was like reaching Wilt Chamberlain status. By that point I had made sweet love to many, many waves.
+1 Totally agree. Gert in mid august was the best... warm water and waves that actually broke well- peeling and didn't closeout... just drop in, stall, get barrled, lean forward... make it out... then come down and around to stall again...and so on and so forth... rides all the way to the beach. September was fun and memorable for the length of swell and the size... but all the long period swell with messed up sand bars and a lot of east... it was pretty much closing out every day. There where a hand full of good days.. but not the same as gert.. yet I will say it was the longest stretch of swell I can remember since early 2000's... just not quality Also- it's funny how the ocean , being flat this week- just looked odd...
I got the best overall waves from Irma but the primetime Jose swell on Sunday afternoon was possibly the best waves I've ever seen at my beach. So I guess it's a toss up? Between scoring on my trip and 4 back to back to back to back storms this September was easily the best surfing month of my life.
Thats exactly what they want you to think. Rise above the evil brother. We are in a galactic battle and Earth is a training ground for your soul to exercersise on. Dont be lazy.
Hurricane Gert mid August was the best for NJ. Pumping and breaking good. Then it was a month of close outs more or less.
Gert for Tropical swells on Delmarva....it came with really good wind direction. Jose or Maria had the potential to be better, but the winds didn't cooperate as much.
