I live on the olympic peninsula trying to figure out how to read if its a good swell before I go out the bouy is 50 miles away from where I surf and its a beach break and noaa is forecasting a 4 ft swell at 14 seconds. Everytime I look on a surf forecast site and it says its supposed to be good it never is and when it says there wont be a good break its awesome. Tired of missing good breaks so im trying to learn how to decide if itll be good or not. Im not looking for huge waves but nice 3-4ft would be perfect.
Let’s start with hello. Tell us about yourself, get hazed a little bit, and then maybe you’ll get some help. Maybe.
Use multiple surf reporting/forecasting sources, better learn your break, or just go out when it says it's gonna be lousy .
Surfing off the Olympic Peninsula has got to be something special. Only got over there twice while our ship was in the yards at Bremerton, but never made it to the ocean.
Rely on your instincts. The more you surf the better they become - stay away from too much tech. Back in the day all we had were weather models that used isobars...its all we needed.
I highly recommend this book. It is currently out of print but if you compliment Frosty of his fashion sense he might be able to get you a copy.
man the whole boardshort style is in an uproar..on one hand you have companies making them out of coconut fibers and recyclable plastic bottles now Birdwells are coming back just don't be the dude with the below the knee merican flag ones btw if anyone buys new wetsuit gloves toss me your old pair my hands were freexing last week
Dude if you live in the Olympic Peninsula (like I do), then you have so much more to learn about surfing this area than the size and interval of a swell.
I own a pair of very old Birdwells made for me by the family years ago. Great board shorts from then--the new ones, I am told, suck because they changed their materials which defined Birdwells.
Id love some insight! Any help is appreciated! I've been surfing for about a year now on and off but really trying to get into it for the last few months.
Man you guys are getting soft in your old age. It use to be so much harder for newbies but now they just walk in flop on the couch, kick their feet up, pop a cold one, and pretend like they have been here all along. What happened to youse guys? Lol
Drop the hugs all around and replace it with open borders, sanctuary cities, plus welfare and entitlements for all! That would make more sense I believe.
