I unfollowed a lot of them.

To the geezers in this thread, sorry guys, we live in a different world. Im 28, its tough to escape this stuff regardless how you try.

To the guy that said its because the user overindulged, I disagree. It is perfectly normal to have a few social media accounts to have fun with friends/keep in touch, but the local pros post a lot and are invasive. As a surfer who grew up in NJ I followed them to support the local community, but they abuse the support and spam horrible content (yes im generalizing). Unfollowed.

if you don't have enough self control not to post your inner dreams, desires and thoughts to a social platform, you really don't deserve privacy. It's pretty simple...

I’m about to turn 37 and don’t consider myself a geezer and find no interest in social media like that. I at one point had a MySpace waaaay back when it first came out and was popular, and I had a FB for a while till that ran it’s course.

I only have this place where I talk to people online, that is it. My job makes me have a LinkedIn but I don’t even check it, I hate it.

I almost stopped coming here too but I actually enjoy talking to some of you morons. But this too will probably run it’s course. Then what?

The internet is great and all but it’s more of a time killer than anything. When you have real life things to do you can’t spend much time online because you are already occupied.

It’s when I’m sitting around doing nothing or need a mental break from work that I pick up my phone and kill time.

Not trying to escape anything, I enjoy the net and find it an extremely useful tool.

Only attempting to point out that social media and internet use should be done sensibly.

I think you stated my point exactly. Where is it that we disagree? The OP said he was getting bored. When I get bored of something, I give it a break. I may or may not come back... but I put it aside either way. Sounds like you do the same.

    Maybe you're a geezer in a young man's body.

Bahaha brothers, we are derailing and getting maybe too focused with the age aspect. Off topic, but this is one of the most balanced postings I’ve seen in a while with the perfect amount of heckling from our community elders, and really good opinions and insight with no one getting overly butthurt. Being 37 - you aren’t a geezer at all physically or mentally speaking... geezer status is earned by surviving 60+ years on this rock in my eyes. Look at Gary Linden still charging mexi pipe. Even though I know you aren’t worried about it - don’t worry about it lol.

What our 28 year old mate was getting at ( I think? ) is the fact that even being just a mere 9 years apart and 12 above myself the tech has boomed like 10 fold each year or some crap. With that being said - and it creating tons of other media platforms, its easier for the youngest generation to keep up with it because it’s being applied to their lives and ours daily through certain social situations - even in schoolz.

Kinda reverse engineering the entire thing, if you sat an 8 track in front of a millennial they would probably attempt to cook their morning toast with it. But you’re probably a bit more familiar with it because it was in heavy use while you were a youth ( sorry if the 8 track was before your time too I’m not sure when they were the kitties titties as it was way before me )

    To the OP:

I think everyone has offered pretty good advice, unfollow people, cut back on the whole phone thing period, read more, drink water, if you can’t beat em’ - you can join em’ ... and a whole bunch of other crap. Ultimately in the end, you’ll probably need to do atleast another year of sand reconne until you’ll know exactly what to do about your situation.

Right on. My Dad had 8 tracks, my generation came up on cassettes and then CD’s. I still have hundreds of CD’s that I have had for a long time.

As Solomon said, "there is nothing new under the sun." These tendencies have been in us since the ancients. Social media seems to exacerbate the problem by providing an easy accessible platform and conduit for all to "look at me" or "hear me", and in its excesses, can be an annoyance to others. That is why it is probably a good thing, as is being suggested by some, whether you are a producer or consumer, to apply moderation or take a few steps back.

    From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echo_and_Narcissus
The myth of the goddess is told in Book III of the Metamorphoses, and tells the story of a "talkative nymph" whom the goddess Venus admires for her magnificent voice and song. When she tricks Juno into believing that her husband, Jupiter, was in the city, Juno curses Echo by making her able to only finish a sentence not started, and unable to say anything on her own. "Yet a chatterbox, had no other use of speech than she has now, that she could repeat only the last words out of many." This is the explanation of the aural effect which was named after her. She falls in love with Narcissus, whom she catches sight of when he is "chasing frightened deer into his nets." Eventually, after "burning with a closer flame," Echo's presence is revealed to Narcissus, who, after a comic, yet tragic scene, rejects her love. Echo prays, in her mind, of this to Venus, who makes Echo disappear, until she "remains a voice" and "is heard by all."

Then, Narcissus "tired from both his enthusiasm for hunting and from the heat" rests by a spring, and whilst drinking, "a new thirst grows inside him" and he is "captivated by the image of the beauty he has seen". He falls deeply in love with "all the things for which he himself is admired." He then wastes away with love for himself, echoing the manner in which Echo did earlier. A while later his body is gone, and in its place is a narcissus flower. The pale flower is still found near river banks so that it can be reflected in the water.

    Yes, we're in total agreement.

Also, when I was younger I probably would have eaten that stuff up. Now that I'm older and I see the stuff they post I actually find it depressing most of the time.
