Yeah well its on http://www.worldsurfleague.com/posts/314359/its-on-day-three-of-the-rip-curl-pro-bells-beach
^you (we) are getting old man...our generation is moving through the lineup. I was checking out A Coco clip the other day and it showed some classic footy of her dad and uncle. I was thinking, there have been a lot of good surfers over the decades but only a certain group that I would put in the excellent category. I think Fanning is one of them.
Yeah man. There are a few surfers who stand out in the crowd of already very talented pros. Fanning is definitely one of them. And i can't even say exactly what it is that makes him (or the others) stand out. But when you see him surf, you just know he's different. Speaking of coco.... Mason is another guy that stands out. I was never a huge fan, but have been seeing more and more clips of him in the past 3-5 years. I don't think ive ever seen a pro that good that gives off the impression that he's just having fun. Remember the pipe masters a few years back where he was riding that grey and orange board? Don't remember the length but it was considerably longer than what anyone else was riding. Quite traditional rather than modern. That was cool as hell to see
Yea it does... one of the waves I'd have loved to have surfed in my lifetime. Probably not gonna happen at this point.
When I think of Bells, 2 things immediately come to mind: 1) 1981 Rip Curl Pro with Simon obliterating the competition with the first Thruster in perfect macking conditions, and 2) the scene in Endless Summer where everybody on the beach is covered with flies.
I agree. Winki section looks fun unless you have the super low tide at Bells. I have never been to Australia...sorta on the bucket list.
I really enjoyed those last few heats. Mick going out on a wave he can surf as well as anyone in the world making it to the final. Italo is a beast on his backhand...reminds me of Occy.
Fanning blew it letting that last set go with like 3 minutes left. He should have know better. Very inconsistent all day. Fun event to watch! Cheers Eugene!
Yeah...i was thinking the same thing. It was a medium sized set, and maybe he thought getting an 8 out of one of those waves was a long shot. But yeah...you could tell people were completely expecting him to swing into that wave and work his magic and kind of dead silent when he didn't and the ocean went flat after.
