That's where i pulled my name from.

Lairds applejack brandy, brewed in good ol' scobeyville. GW used to drink it and write about how goode it was..

    from the web:
The seriously boozy spirit, called "cyder spirit," was so beloved that its recipe was requested by George Washington himself to supply the Revolutionary forces. Later, William’s grandson, Robert, who fought in the Revolutionary War, would open the Laird family's distillery, which was also the first commercial distillery in the country. After learning how to make the spirit, president-to-be George Washington even sold some of his own making.

Yeah it's pretty kick ass. My old lady grew up in the local orchards and her kin has worked them since the Grapes of Wrath Depression era.

I'm forever trying to score some but the old guys are real secretive lol

My Dad use to take us to SC to see family and come back with shine. He would shake the mason jar and say "look at the tiny bubbles, low specific gravity, better shine". He was an EE at CCAFS.

Oh man...I have a few grain stories.

When I was 7 or 8 years old, I was hanging around the camp fire with a bunch of old dudes (dad, uncles, friends etc). They were passing around the proverbial mason jar.

I remember how messed up they got and fast. So, one of my uncles friends (who was a complete jerk), grabbed me as I was walking by and held me over the fire. The smoke got in my eyes and I was screaming. When he finally put me down, I put my boot right into his shin. The only problem, I hear my dad cuss, I can't see and everyone falls all over the place laughing. I kicked my dad in the shin.

We still crack up to this day on that one.

I thought this was a thread about Mick Fanning.
Anyway, my wife is from Albania. They make this stuff called Raki, which is like European white lightning. Its like 151 proof. One time I had some in a snapple bottle and my kid opened it and almost drank it. Wont make that mistake again.

My Mom and my aunts and uncles... all very Italian...
used to make Grappa. AKA Blue Lightning. Fermented grapes... Their cover was they were just making wine. I don't know how the could get it down to this purity, but it was 180 proof. My Pop's side of the family made a version of Apple Jack. We just found parts of the still last summer...
This answers a lot of questions about me...

(No Barry, Not the fetal alcohol syndrome. That is not why I'm a moron.)

OK since we're telling stories about homemade likker....

There is this true authentic mexican restaurant down the street from me, best mexican in town no doubt (Wilmington locals PM me for details). I went in to pick up some carry out as they were closing for the night and the guy ringing us up asks "what are you drinking tonight?". My girl and I had just got a bottle of tequila so we happily replied "tequila!". He grinned and went to the back for something. He comes back with a Disani water bottle and a couple ramekins. He pours 3 shots (one for himself) and tells us this is some true Oaxacan mezcal and I believed him because his english was VERY shakey.

The stuff tasted like pure fire and when straight to your head. He pointed at my girl and said "2 of these and you are done" and laughed. Best part is that place (at the time) didn't even have their license to sell beer LOL.
