I have a 2 hr drive to va beach and 2 20 to sandbridge so when I make the drive I want to make sure I'm going to a good spot...How's North End and the 15th street pier? I hear its better to go to VB over Sandbridge in the winter?

if you are looking for a spot that has a nice beach break or bar no matter what the tide, the croatan/pendleton would be great. 1st street is also good but make sure the wind is more w/wsw to sw/ssw. i5th street is good for anything chest to head but i wouldnt reccomend it. ive never been to the north end but i have heard a lot of good things about it sooo you gotta get that info from somebody else. :)

aw man let me be the first to tell you all the best spots are on shore drive there is chic's beach which has really nice left point break or first landing statepark has a really sick reefbreak that is a swell magnet and pretty much any of these spots are kook free dont worry about having sesh ruined . so bro good luck finding those's dirty va barrels

ya i think northend is where its at my local break at 82. nice uncrowded lefts and rights. But ya skip 1rst street its too crowded, croatan is ok in the winter but summer/fall/spring its earned the nick name kookatan or crowded tan. 15 is alright but there is pretty harsh law enforcements for surfing to close to the pier. billabong money is kidding you although there is a secret spot or two in the bay... fishermans island but you need a boat and it breaks once a year, and a secret break in the bay right next to the military base... its hard to get too not worth it in the winter. ummm but my suggestion is NE just be aware of the local gang who is not to friendly to outsiders. but they dont mind you if you stay out of their (my) way.

good advice. you can also try willoughby spit and a couple of other spots in ocean view. they work best on a south swell.

seriously, look at a map relative to the wind and swell model for the day you plan to hit it and do some exploring. get up early and plan to do some driving around. figuring it out yourself is waaaaay better than asking the advice of others. especially when the others think it is april fool's day all year long.

Sounds like you're driving from Richmond ..

That's what I do. Ida moved the sandbars around a lot so waves are where you find them now.

If you come to VB make sure you have something else fun you can do just in case, like visit the aquarium or go for a hike at first landing, or bring a kayak if you can and go paddle. We're famous for flat stretches. But if the surf is up be wary, in the two hours it takes you to get here it could go from pumping to nothing, but to be fair it's just as easy the other way around, too. Also don't be discourage if a couple spots turn up nothing, keep driving and you're bound to find something even if you have to go all the way to sandbridge.

And hey, if you can't find surf I hear there's this sorority up in the north end around 75th where the chicks are wild and just love the surfer boyz and are always up for anything!!!

Outside of the jetty I don't think it matters where you go. This place sucks.
