Earth day does a terrible job of setting the table for what is going wrong on this planet. There should be a designated day that focuses on the psychopaths and their weakling minions that strive to control over people and that keep setting us all back each generation.

the southern states get a lotta sludge, radioactive waste. Since we have such lax laws about that, we get a bunch of it from dem yankee states. saw a story over the wknd about a "poop train" from NY that's stuck in some small Bama town of a 1,000 ppl and gets real smelly during the hot days. but now the talk about drilling is concerning all the military bombs down there on the sea floor, that could explode, and maybe do something to the lil fishies

But as is well known, the Democrats that pushed that through know this : never underestimate the stupidity of the American electorate.
They did it for votes only, and NJ citizens fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

I'm not anti-drilling, but oil spills don't know were state waters start and federal waters end.

Offshore drilling is done all over the planet and in much more hostile places than here. Instances of problems are very rare and even the BP spill which was pretty much a worst case scenario recovered very quickly. Its far better to get our own oil here than ship it from half way across the globe. Not necessarily saying I want to see it off our coast but also not overly alarmed if they do. Prospects are probably better in the arctic.

So, why does BOEM omit NJ from the mid-Atlantic and SI includes it?

Oil plays a huge part of our foreign policy.

If you want to stop being involved with other countries affairs, be ready to cut off your dependence on their resources.

Our risks on the east coast are far greater from a shipping disaster than they would ever be from offshore oil rigs. A ship running aground or breaking up off of Norfolk, Cape May or New York Harbor is the real big risk with oil....not drilling 70 miles offshore. The north atlantic currents and trade winds would actually protect our coast from most any effects if something happened far from shore. Can't imagine the damage if a ship were lost inside the Delaware Bay on its way into the refineries in Philadelphia. That's where the real risk is and that risk is regardless of if the oil comes from the middle east or an offshore oil rig.

Doesn’t the presence of rigs offshore necessarily mean increased shipping in the area?

fellow new jersians, just wanted thoughts on tomorrows swell, looks like the wind isn't going to switch til late, which is exactly what happened last week and I got skunked, went home and by the time I got home wind switched and it was epic.tomorrow has potential.only thing that gets me is wind aint going west til the next day but will be south less than 5 mph so it might be good

Big chunky ones tomorrow night just before dark. Might get lucky and pull into a few... might be a sloppy mess. The goods will be the next morning.
