I'd like to see how they judge a heat of Keanu Asing (5'2) and Owen wright (7'5).

What scores higher, turns or barrels?!

    I wish it was longer..
I bet 99.7% of everyone here would jump at the chance- if they received an all expense paid invitation!!

When I saw pics of Drew Brees riding that, I figured that wave would let me look like Dane Reynolds. Would love to get a crack at that

    Tin foil hat on:

Kelly purposely broke his foot in Jbay, so he can market his new wave machine toy as a rehab facility for injured surfers

Same. My tai chi teacher once said watching someone performing bad tai chi is like watching someone pick their nose. It should be avoided.

To each his own but in my opinion the whole man-made, pre-fab, artificial wave business is no more than a gimic. Judging surfing in that stupid pool will be like figure skating. Slater beats Reynolds 9.875 to 9.865. Freaking lame. With that being said the hypocrite in me will support and promote it if all the kooks go there instead of surfing in the "scary" ocean.

One thing for sure, the contestants will not be able to blame bad luck or poor wave selection. The playing field will be identical for all competitors.

The machine lacks variety and there are no sections out ahead to hit. Its going to make for repetitive boring surfing. Perhaps they could throw some obstacles in the water or some railings and ramps like they do at wakeboarding events. Perhaps a finless heat or a wavestorm heat.

I’m gonna build one... just a small scale one. Make waist high waves. Shouldn’t be that difficult. Foil, abrupt but slanted deep water to shallow water. Dig a pond, build a track, pull the foil with a old pickup truck and a long chain. Redneck wave pool. During dead swell times I can sarf in my backyard.

Also fill it with bass so I can feesh too.

Nah, just gas/diesel to run the old beater. Any of y’all physicists? I’m guessing I’d have to get the thing up to 30ish mph to imitate 20sec period yeah? And probably do 8ft depth at the foil to imitate a 4ft wave? I’m actually hoping to do it within the next 5-6 years. And I’m pretty good at fufilling my goals.

I think just a motor running a pully system would be more effective but it’s easier to test and get wave shape with a truck.

OK hows about this: rather than towing the foil with the truck, disassemble the truck and use it's powertrain to power a sled on rails, attached to the foil. Kinda like Kelly's, but better because redneck.

Yeah! Thats what I was thinking running the “sled” off the motor further down the line. But I don’t think having the motor on the sled itself is practical. Better to have the motor pull it through a pully system. Then it’s not exposed to water and can be mounted where it can be easily serviced. You think a V6 could do it? Maybe just go v8. But more redneck with a straight 6 and cheaper
