We had some decent waves today in NC, and I think I was so hyped that it caused me to cramp up and fatigue within 30 seconds of being in the water (not joking hahaha) Has that ever happened to anyone here before? I had a good breakfast, plenty of water beforehand, and I am in decent to good shape. My lats and tris started cramping within the first few paddles I took... it mostly cleared up after I settled down, but I could feel the tension and fatigue throughout the session.
Guesses here: Stress reaction. Body's initial reaction to cold water. Did you do any strenuous upper body exercises or weight work the day before? Drinking too much alcohol the night before.
I agree with the previous answers - probably diet (too much sodium, high-fat foods) or dehydration (not enough water over time) I've never felt cramped post-adrenaline dump. I usually feel exhausted and fatigued like I've been paddling for 3 hours straight.
Huh? Also, Sodium is the most important electrolyte. Potassium is the other one. Not enough salt will lead to an inability to hold onto water, excessive urination, and dehydration. Not enough Potassium will lead to cramping and an inability for your muscles to contract effectively. Calcium is also very important in muscle contractions, however, odds are you can strip some off your bones if you need it that bad. But yeah, eat better and stay in shape. Surfing is the best all body workout you can get IMO, oh wait I mean bodyboarding. But surfing is pretty good too.
wasn't alcohol... I quit last july. I did a 10 mile run the day before, and it left me feeling a little more tired than usual because of the heat, so that may have had something to do with it. I felt pretty good until I started paddling, though. Idk. It may have been stress/anxiety. Waves were a little larger than I am used to surfing, so I was pretty excited/nervous to paddle out.
OK. We need more info here. Prease answer the following questions: How much can you bench? single rep max Have you ever been towed into a wave? Is your leash string properly tied? Have you ever dropped in on someone in Cocoa beach?
Listen to this man, Mullins. He is our leading scientist on all medial advise issues. Thank you for your input Dr. Dawnpatrol321 Phd M.D.
Yeah, this. Or don't, if that's your thing, but my thinking is this is probably a big part of the issue... body was still dehydrated and electrolytes depleted from the run. Also, you definitely have lats and tricep AIDS, probably get that checked out sooner rather than later.
Every time I see this thread title I think of dropping a deuce so extreme that I get an adrenaline jolt....
Your physician can write an order for a chemistry panel and CBC, to start with. Additional lab work may be requested after that. In the interim, stretches in a whirlpool could prove beneficial.
lmao. uhhhhh. I am assuming you are just messing around, but I will go ahead and answer these lol. Haven't benched in years. Probably like 190 right now I've never been towed into a wave. I've never been on any waves above 6-8 ish ft. I have no idea if my leash is tied properly. Never surfed in Florida before
