That would almost be like... and bear with me here... pimping out a good ol' surf forecasting site to the highest bidder who ruins the vibe and alienates all the good folks who were the regulars at said surf forecasting site...

Micah seems like a very smart guy, when the site was his it was run with a quiet and steady hand.

I don't know the whole story but I'm guessing that he made $$$ selling it to a corporation and now they're paying him $$$ to run it for them.

Smart.

Anyways, if I'm not missing anything like a story about iced-up beach boys beating up on tourons, this sounds like a good cause.

I'm serious when I say, the Hawaiian Beach Boy culture is real. This is sad. I was fortunate enough to cruz with some of the coolest guys you could ever meet on Waikiki beach. Tourist like the fact that they get to go out in a paddle canoe with a Hawaiian and ride the waves.

Not all of the beach boys are Hawaiian. I believe some were not or mixed with Pilipino or Japanese. But, for sure, I knew a few that were 100% and many that were half. Regardless, having this dive company squeeze their way in will change the face of Waikiki IMO. Super Lame!

Nah, not really. Just helping a friend by giving a signature on a petition, that's all. Didn't take much thought, and I didn't really give it much thought TBH.

But without knowing the whole story, my analogy would be that it's like your town decided to get rid of your favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant so they can replace it with an Applebee's.

But I'm interested in hearing your opinion.

 

Well there is the story of how the US kidnnapped the Queen ,she was deposed by a group backed by US, then we annexed it, i thought i heard something about that over in Hawaii .But like Barry said money and power really does all the talking .

 

I'm not a socialist, I just don't like douche bags. I'm not talking bout the Dive company. I'm talking about the city council. Probably a bunch of second-generation supplanted white guys whose parents came over in the 60s.

Kiddie, I don't know all the details but my thought is that the spot is owned by the city, they take bids, and the highest bid wins. In our sue happy country/culture the city just can't accept a bid from a lower offer just because they are "the beach boys".

 

And get this crap. I live in a neighborhood with a pool and every hour the lifeguards take a 10 minute break, and that is when the adults can be in the pool minus kids. Well that is no more. According to the fair housing act you can not discriminate based on age, and that even includes adult swims. First world problem to the max - but still beyond dumb.
