thing is eps and xps style boards are more sensitive to heat so if you dont take care of them they wont age well.Resin can get soft and start to move in hot sun especially if it has darker colors, big letters and large logos. eps foam was used in the 40s by dave sweet and bob simmons for surfboards
How sensitive are you talking? Don't leave it in my car or on the beach? Or a 3 hours sesh in 80 degree water and a blistering sun would damage it? I'm curious, never had any issue with my EPS boards and heat before.
Yes to the former, no to the latter. I've melted out the bottom of board just laying on the hot sand. But I mean HOT sand... like, too hot to walk on in bare feet. I've also opened up my rooftop cargo box to find my board turned into a balloon... the skin completely blown off the blank. And yes, dark colors are at higher risk. Everyone should know the rules... don't leave your EPS board in a hot car, and lighter foams (less than 2#) and billet foam (as opposed to pressure molded) are more susceptible.
K that was my thinking. Don't need to do anything special compared to how I take care of my EPS boards. Don't leave them in hot places, a motto to live by for any surfbort. I don't live far from the beach (~3 miles) so my borts don't sit out much and they live in the A/C, don't think I will have a problem. Thanks for the info though!
I have a mo' betta rule.....don't buy EPS board!! Buy polyurethane, minimizes any heat concerns, cold concerns, and they are mo' betta boards anyhow. BBRRRRRPPPPP!!!!!!!
Thats the sand every day here in the Summer / Fall. Sometimes I burn the bottoms of my feet just going to and from the water.
Then try one of these, Mr. Progressive!! Chicks are included!! https://www.islesurfandsup.com/stan...MIrbbxpeDT2wIVArfICh0c8QDLEAEYASAAEgJUSPD_BwE
not a fan of epoxy 'corkiness' so i stick with poly but and local shaper with good skill can replicate a big boy shape.
Just go thinner (reduce volume), and take some excess flex out with a thicker lamination (substitute one or more 4oz layers with 6oz). Feels almost identical to PU
Finally gets here monday. They sent me a teaser pic (I've been nagging the hell out of them for a pic), I will post more pics and ride report once I get it and come back from Panama.
