Went on a DP strike mission this morning. The new layout was very helpful with the buoy data, sunrise time, and tides right on the forecast page. I'm really loving it. Thanks Swellinfo!!
Any chance of making the color forecast chart scroll-able on my Android, instead of tapping for the timeline?
So how does the report tab work? Just out of curiosity. Like i said earlier, that info was always there but it was small and i never looked at it. Id usually use swell info for my tide and buoy information, then go elsewhere for my wind info. So is that report tab constantly being updated? Every 10 min? Where's it grabbing the info from (other than buoy. That one's obvious)?
Yes I also really miss the actual degree of swell direction. This was very helpful for me and if you just say "south windswell" for my beach, 205 degrees vs 190 degrees makes a big difference. This was probably the #1 reason I visited Swellinfo.
Good morning, Admin. Still snow blinded over here. Need a background color theme, in order to set off all text/objects. The colors in the tide graph are nice. Will you please align the text in the columns. It will make it easier on the eyes to rapidly scroll through all.
I like this (something like it, redone in proper software). It compliments the colors in the tide graph. Having it convert to vid upon landing would be nice.
I hate this. I know, some of you guys like it. I know there is a lot of information. But I used to visit swellinfo 5 - 10 times a day. Had my local report saved in my favorites, would click it and in a glance I could see the wind, tide, and swell estimate. At the bottom of the page I could see the top posts on the forum and could link from there to my business Facebook account. Now that's gone. Swellinfo is lucky if I visit once a day now. More is not always better, in business I learned that a long time ago.
I've been listening to all the feedback and along with my own use, and have been making some modifications. One of the biggest things from the forecast page, is not having the weather observations next to the timeline graph. Now you have to switch between the report and forecast views to do that. Its pretty simple, but it does take an extra step to take. For people using mobile to view the page, it was initially not very convenient, because there was too much scrolling to get to that info. I've reduced it, so there is no more scrolling needed at the top to easily switch between the timeline graph and the weather observations (see attachments). I think this works pretty good, and I hope others agree. There is an always the option of adding the current observation back on top of the timeline. Additionally, I agree that initially there was too much white space on the page that created unnecessary scrolling. I've already reduced some as mentioned above, but I'll be working on more modifications. Thanks again for the feedback.
Ahh, I'm getting used to it already. Way better than Surfline Beta lol, I don't even bother going there anymore. I actually like Merx's suggestions on backgrounds, even if he/she can be a minor nuisance
Maybe keep the swell direction as it is, but ADD a more in depth swell section. That way you can get a snapshot or you can dive into the more detailed info. Question: can you pull historical data from the buoys? Like, swell data for the last 3 days / week / month?
Sure, historical data can be pulled. For now though, I’d suggest clicking through to the NDBC buoy, that’s what I do. To do this click in the buoy you want on the buoy data map and it will open up the page. I know you ou used to be able to click through from the buoy data on the top of the page, so I can consider adding that back as well.
Not my fault that you gave me a gazillion "likes". Nope. Do you like this? Pulled colors from those Admin had selected in the tide graph. Used them to repaint map, while removing all unnecessary distractions from it. Enlarged station data text boxes, slightly repositioning a few. Enlarged fonts and markers. Updated green marker to the one Admin had created for the conditions graphic. Added UniGradients "Bright Vault" background layer. Less busy now, thereby easier to quickly scan, and all further assists in establishing color consistency (a color theme). Looks good on various backgrounds, better on some than others.
