so I’m trying so make some plans or come up with doable ideas for a surfing trip for me and my daughter, and I’ve got a few ideas in mind but would rather not make the mistake of trying to do too much, first shot out of the gate... I’ve looked at Witches Rock in Costa Rica and maybe somewhere in PR. I’ve just got to keep surfing levels and abilities in mind as well as cost. My boards are a ton of money that I DIDNT have to spend but did anyway lol. Levels are for both of us but more her as I am more of a charger and will try, and enjoy, pushing beyond my abilities and paying the price - I want her to have fun and if it’s too hard for her it won’t be.
Honestly? I wanna wear trunks and a rash guard man. I wanna surf without feeling like a brAutworst lol
We’ve got family friends that are family with FinMcools crew over in Mullahmore Ireland that would treat us well but like I said, I wear rubber for 9-10 months of the year ...
Ok, and when will you be taking this trip? This should help you narrow it down based on swell seasons for certain locations.
Either late August before she goes back to school or in February - a big window I know, but she’s still in school so it’s tough.
If Feb go to Rincon PR, solid swell season at that time. I’ve been 4 times and it’s awesome. If August maybe CR or Panama? I’ve never been but they are next on my list.
I’ve checked out Panama and there are a few places that are crazy awesome and affordable. I have a hook up with JetBlue so that’s a big plus
How is the range of surf breaks in PR? I’d like to go somewhere that there is a range for her and also for myself. I don’t think I’ll ever be doing nasty cutbacks in my surfing career but other than the occasional reversion to stupid, I do pretty well in bigger surf, can pick and hold a line even if I get deep and with enough time in the right waves I know I could barrel. That’s my personal goal on the trip - ride a legit 12-15’ face and actually surf it. Make my lines on it instead of just making off alive lol

Id go for Costa in August over PR in Feb. I've been to both a couple times. It sounds like you have to lock in dates in advance. The spots your looking at in Costa is pretty much guaranteed to have somewhere between chest high and big in August. and more of a variety of breaks....soft and forgiving to solid. PR in February is still the Atlantic Ocean...it might be huge, it might be waist high.
I’ve been leaning that way for the same reasoning. Done a fair bit of looking around and found A wide variety of different places that will fill the bill nicely. Thanks for the input on these places.
Ya know, I haven’t got a clue about this place but now I’m gonna look it up cause I’ve laughed my ass off more than once reading posts about it..
There’s a variety of breaks to choose from depending on swell direction and size. I have gone in October and April, just outside of peak season and scored every time. February is peak season so it will most likely have a big swell event at some point in the month. It’s not a guarantee but if I have scored in non peak months, I’m sure in a peak month it’ll be good too. Rincon is on the west coast of the island, so it’s where the Caribbean and Atlantic come together. They consider it the Carribean... https://www.rincon.org/ https://rinconsurfreport.com/
