World is full of them Val, but I swear I can swim lol, and on a few of my good days I have paddled out for and actually caught and rode some big slow 10’ rights without imploding...not very gracefully I should add. NOW, I will also add that I’ve paddled for and missed or completely got mauled on WAAAAAAAY more waves than I’ve ever caught - probably ones I never had any business trying for. But then how am I supposed to get any better?

And you’d laugh your balls off at how many pressure rings ALL of my boards have due to my Long learning curve... trust me

I’ve never surfed outside of a 5 mike radius of home Bro. Stuck to where I knew I was good surfing by myself while I “learned” and am too old to have made friends with other actual surfers that wanted to have a lumpy goofy newbie tag along. So I usually surf by my lonesome when I’m not with my daughter. That has limited me to four local breaks which are pretty nice to have but are inconsistent. Hence the need to get out of my dam comfort zone and really try to surf. I’ve been the luckiest hack on the water for a while now so a good trip will clear all that up like rubbing alcohol on genital warts

Those Belmar waves look to be about 23' minus 17'

its a tough call. if you get lucky and its small, CR would be fun for you but if there is a swell you are going to be in way over your head.

1C2EAEBF-D115-4614-803F-36FA5DB724EB.png Just so Val and anybody else doesn’t think I’m totally full of shit, this is what the break does during a good noreaster. Hooreecanes are similar except the winds are different. And honestly, the max this beach can handle without going to huge collapsed mush and insane rips is around 12’.
I surfed the second day after the storm and got mauled and didn’t catch a wave, just an asskicking and a fin to the back. That’s how good I am hahahaha

Thank you for your honesty. It’s why I put this thread out there to begin with.

Heck if you're convinced on going to CR, then go to Tamarindo...it's like the Disneyland of Costa Rica.

And if you find that the surf is not challenging enough, then take the 20 minute drive in either direction to Playa Grande or Playa Negra.

I’m going to try and bring one boart for myself and Brooke only has her Two Face - the one I’ll bring is that 8’4” red LB. it’s got great rocker, lots of float and turns like my daughters 7’4” for me. Great all around and PADDLES like a canoe so my old ass could handle it (hopefully). Going to google up this list of places gang! Keep’em coming and thanks!

Fair enough. However, I believe that the last legit 10 to 12 foot day up there was the day that EMass took his best buddy out for wave surf riding lessons next to the rocks and conditions went from knee high to DOH in a matter of minutes. Legendary story.

Show her this video. Explain it is of seven guest houses in Manzanillo, and ask which one she would prefer to stay in come February (dry season).

based on his posts i think he would not be a good fit for sometime like this. especially with the daughter. Better off spending the money on a fun little wave THEN hitting up a solid location.

Don’t know this man Emass but it can get gnarly pretty quick. DOH all the time...

Seriously though, it’s norm is thigh high/chest high on the good days. Those big days are usually only during/after storms and are very rare. Some spots get big during winter and early spring. I surf all season so I got lucky on those occasions. December 24th I paddled out through 8-10’ and some bigger but they were 5 seconds apart so the paddleout even on that big DelRay was crazy and took me 20 minutes to recoup from on the outside and I took stock of where I was and what I did and got alittle scared because on the outside they looked huge. And to boot it was cloudy snowy and windy as shyt... and I was completely alone. Took me another 15 minutes just to get the balls to paddle for one which i got knocked off. Paddled back out a bit and went after the second one and caught it - a big left - and held on for dear life... rode left until it closed out and then rode the wash all the way to the sand and went home. Good lesson learned: surf like that? Stay home til your ready lol
