yesterday, a dude paddles out at the washout with suite, booties, gloves and a bonnet on a soft top.SOFT TOP. Never catches a wave while flailing around for a 1/2 hour.

 

Sweepers who paddle out in the middle of a crowded lineup, then lose their balance before a wave even arrives. Nothing against sweepers, just need to hone those skills before putting yourself in that position.
Also two hour stretch sessions before paddling out. Yes, stretching is important, but your not out doing a routine on the parallel bars.

 

that's funny! this isn't in the water but I cringe when I see someone drag their leash through 100 yds of sand and just hand it back to the guy in the cage!

In addition to a propre sand reconne a solid pre-surf stretch and warm up routine is essential to maximize the potential of any surf session.

Probably a guy using his cell phone while surfing in the middle of a crowded beach break.

 

Lady showed up mid June, half tide, shallow and maybe waist high occasional sets.... wearing a fluorescent green wetsuit in what looked like a 6/5/4, green mitten gloves and hoodie. Water was high 60’s. But God love her she stayed for almost two hours and tried like hell...

 

You would be shocked the amount of people who do that shit in SD

This isn't really "kooky", but definitely strange.

I was surfing just after dawn in early May with a group of 3-4 ppl in Asbury Park, NJ. Water was in low 50's but the sun was BEAMING. Some rugged-looking Latino guy paddles out to the lineup wearing clothes - tee shirt, zip up sweatshirt, jeans, and skate shoes. He's on one of those boogie boards with a picture of a shark on it and it's buckled. He's AMPED out of his mind - incomprehensible stoke; babbling about how great the waves are. A big set wave comes through and he's on it. Everyone lets him go and he gets decimated (guessing he does). Nobody saw where he went but there's no way he came out of that wave.

Pretty sure he was on drugs. If you know Asbury, he probably was.

 

I might just lose my mind if I see some guy talking on his phone in the lineup
