I like the diamond in a 6’10” or the 7’.
But it seems to me the big boy tri is more for the waves I want to graduate to and work with. There was another one I found on YouTube with similar design and dims. Gives me a good idea of what shapes are working for what I’m shooting to do. If I decide to just buy one rather than wait for my shaper, I know what to look for more now. Aces.

Proctor International, the “ Monsta Chief “model on the ‘tube talks about the things that have been brought up here including volume and rail design with moderate rocker and single concave bottom, etc. I’m getting excited and will reach out to the various people recommended and with a vision and features in mind now.

Emailed these guys today and I’m gonna call that east coast shaper that was recommended too, just for feedback. Leaning towards the Diamond in 6’10” and 44 liters... I have my Cougar that works dam fine for bigger stuff that’s overhead and most of the typical surfing I will do is waist high to chest/head anyway... we’ll see

Looking at a 6’10” Roberts Diamond in 43 liters.
Also going to check out Proctor and their MonstaChief. I like the wave range of both - it fits what we get most often around here but it will also work in overhead stuff and I also have my bigger performance shape Cougar for those post hurricane swells if they go really big. I like the versatility and smaller size. We will see pretty soon. I’m hoping to talk with my shaper about it but if he’s not available to make one for me, I will just buy one -

Regarding volume... considering your current skill level, what you're coming off of, and your goals, I'd go 45-50L. That should put you in the 6'6 - 7'0 range, depending upon design, for a big guy shortboard. That will give you a board that can perform beyond the limits of what you can do right now. And that's a good thing.

    A general example would be something that's 6'10 x 21 x 2 3/4.

Roberts definitely makes a solid ride. I and my friends have had great experiences with our bortes from him. Don’t limit yourself though, maybe try to find something used or on C/L. You’ll lose less money if it ends up being not what you want.

I’ve been like Scobey and have gone through quite a number of different boards in the last three years. All for the purpose of experimenting and widening my horizons. I keep the ones I connect with, and sell the others, 9 times out of 10 for a profit.

But if I can offer anything, listen to Lbcrew. That guy really knows his stuff.

The Roberts Hope Diamond in 6’8”x21 3/4x2 7/8 at 48 liters of the Roberts RBBT at 6’10”x20 1/2x3 and 44 liters or the 7’x20 3/4x3 1/16 at 46 liters are all in the wheelhouse. I like the Diamond because it fits the most overall bill and has good volume to cover me weight and ability wise. Whelp, several others here have said your the man when it comes to this and unless you cheated, your spot on LB. cheers!

Ive done th same thing but with no clear advice - just guesswork, and I’ve LOST a lot of money on borts lol, but now at least I can ride and enjoy every one I own. With exception of that nice Desert Island that was a repair that ended up mine... can’t seem to keep it going in a straight line. That may end up as a trade in or gift to someone who deserves it more than me.

So I called Roberts and they were awesome - great info, took the time to listen to me and understood where I was and where I am trying to get to.
I’m about ready to pull trigger on the 6’10” big boy tri in five fin, with 6 oz S glass on top but not sure about EPS or poly... any last advice? Poly is heavier and cheaper but I sorta like the EPS lightness and durability. Typical New England fall and winter waves - whats the consensus among th round table?

You can't go wrong with either one if you have a good shaper. I own both EPS / Epoxy and Poly boarts. I'm probably going to go with Poly on my Fish. I went EPS / Epoxy on my other SB's. If you are heavy footed or clumsy and have lots of dents on the decks of your other boarts then go with Epoxy I guess.

good guidelines from everyone... if your gonna go with high volumne- I would narrow your length down to somewhere in the 6'6 to 6'10 range... unless your like over 6'2 tall or something...

Personally I like Poly better- but im kinda old like that and don't always like all the new stuff and I like to feel a bit of weight under my feet- and not corky. If your used to a LB- I would go poly... plus I 'feel' like they are more durable- but I could be wrong

I think the Roberts shape is good for what your describing... I had something similar a long time ago and it was a great all around board- could ride it in anything and I loved riding it in bigger surf cause you could really get in early. get the 5 fin- you may like the quad on mushy days...

No real right or wrong here. It's preference.

In bigger stuff with a stiff offshores poly all the way, no question.

EPS i only have one board in, and it's a small wave board. I like it. But again it's for smaller waves.

In my eyes poly is the standard. Especially if it's all you ever rode. You may ride EPS and never go back to poly. Or you may hate it. Id suggest trying a similar style board in EPS if you can. Problem is though, with your experience you might not know if it's the construction or the fact that your riding a shape that's totally be to you.

Id say poly is the safest bet

The winds and lightness are what the kid Kyle said about EPS too ... and yes I’m heavy footed and dent my borts lol ... Poly it is. Gonna call it in later today or tomorrow. 6’10 RBBT in five fin
    Thanks for the help

I vote poly too. I’ve been riding mainly epoxy. The durability is great but have found that I like more weight in bigger waves, especially on days w/ strong offshore wind. Less chatter.
