was in my local surf shop today just looking at the toys and he had a 6’9” x 21 3/4” x 2 5/8” hand shaped and glassed at Diamond and custom painted by a Jeff Meir - looked to be a nice boart and was just curious about it...

Pat Rawson is a master shaper, developed many of the blanks in the Clark catalog (A series I believe were his) His boards are HIGHLY sought after in Hawaii where he is based
On a personal note a friend of mine bought 1 of his Escalade models years ago, I had surfed with him for 25 years, his surfing improved markedly on that board. Never saw his surfing improve like that Can’t go wrong with a Rawson

This is an “Impala” model. I’ve got a Big Boy Tri Roberts being built for me now but won’t see it for another 4-5 weeks and I’m heading on a mini trip to Gilgo Beach LI in two weeks, and some swell coming the next ten days would give me some practice time on it before the trip... I’m such a bort junkie it’s not funny. I can’t afford it either, but my guy will take a down and let me walk - I’ve bought 5 from him already lol. Only thing I’m iffy on is the volume - it’s 2 5/8” thick and 21 1/2” wide. Probably high 40’s in liters?
I just wanted to know what the thoughts were here - good place to get some real world opinions.

A step up into an actual “short board” that I can ride the pitchier, steeper waves we start getting in the fall. Between the combination of my skill level and the fact the shortest boart I own is 8’4” It’s a performance shape but big, I’m trying get beyond just being on a longboard all the time, but I’m too big and way too unskilled to surf anything smaller than high 6’ stuff. I’d like to start getting my turns down and move alittle easier on the face and this will help. It’s funny because I do realize that is a big sized bort but man they feel impossible to surf for me so that’s why I’m in that range. I’ve ordered a Roberts Big Boy Tri and it’s 5 plus weeks out so this one caught my eye because I can start surfing it this week and get some reps/ATTEMPTED reps.
Basically I’m impatient to really suck again for a little while I guess.

Yes it’s a good hookup but I still need to pay for it lol. And if it isn’t right for me then it’s a waste so that’s why I asked around here.

There is nothing about that board that is a waste. A 6’9” board is easily ridable from waist to macking! Will be best in head+. Rawson pretty much designed the modern bottom. He knows how to make a board.

I get it Bruh’ but my skill level isn’t macking yet haha. Truthfully though, between you and the others here, I’ve pretty much decided to grab it - seems to be a really good boart to have even if it’s
A little more difficult to get used to. It’ll be a great addition to the bunch.

Going against the grain here... but I'm basing the following comment on where it sounds like your at with surfing and where you would like to progress to, so I mean it in a friendly way

I have not personally seen this board but most rawson boards that I have seen over the years are very high performance boards. Rawson makes an amazing board, but I personally believe they are better suited for better (mo powerful) waves, which we hardly get... but places like Hawaii get all the time. Guys that are used to this type of board wouldn't have an issue in our waves... but seeing that your trying to progress onto a smaller board- I think there could be a better option. Like getting something shorter, but wider and thicker and bigger tail, maybe a fish with a quad set up. Like a 6'4 or 6'6- if it's thick/wide enough it would probably paddle and catch waves better then the board in question. Plus then you would have 2 different style shapes in the 6 foot range.

So, like I mentioned, just be careful especially if you don't have the extra cash. If it looks really high performance- probably just skip it and hold out for another board... CL always has good boards/deals

Mr. B, your prior comment was kind and accurate so no need to take it back. It’s an important consideration for me to gauge skill level to equipment levels so I don’t buy stuff I’m not good enough to use, not to mention the disappointment and wasted dough.
And yes, that’s pretty much the same bort and it’s either a 2+1 or Tri/thruster. I can’t rememeber offhand. I’m gonna try to pick it up today.

Cool post some pics if you get it... or if your still in questions , pics would help!

If it's that same shape as the link I posted, and a 6'9 - it would be a great board. If it's for the single fin with 2 side bits- even better cause then that will help with the variety of your quiver!

That board was just not the norm for when I think of a rawson board...

More I handled it and checked it out, the more I felt I can surf it. It’s deceptively thick, where I need it too, and the set up is nice. Jeff Myer airbrushed and glassed at Diamond. I’m gonna try it out this week
