Not a lot of news yet but the guy made it to shore and then to a hospital in Boston so the main cause of death, blood loss, should be ruled out. Think he'll make it. I just wouldn't go in the water near seals on the Cape. Not that there aren't sharks around other places without seals but the seals seem to tip the odds towards being in presence of feeding sharks.
The last 5 years have been white shark city all along the Cape Cod coastline. The white shark expert says there are an estimated 450 in the zone between Martha’s Vineyard and Plymouth Bay up to Boston. They also knew it was just a matter of time - that the sharks have been adapting their feeding habits to fit the environment the seals live in...i.e shallow water attacks. This is gonna get worse and it’s not the first. 2012 we had one too. But hey, let’s just decide to “save” some mammals by way of total non planned measures, and have no plan for the fall out, at people’s and the animals expense - it’s the Mass way. On the flip side, it’s the guys own dam fault for imitating a chew toy to a bunch of pit bulls.
Animal's expense? Yes, much better if they were shot than eaten? I trust nature to regulate populations far more than the fishermen who think because their granddad was a fisherman, they have the personal right to stripmine George's Bank, etc... Not a more entitled group outside of maybe State Cops than commercial fishermen around here.
Didnt say a word about fisherman and yes, the animals expense because now people are gonna want them “controlled” again and that means culling. Instead of having some kind of plan in the ready for when populations start exploding and causing major issues both environmentally and for us stupid humans too. Everyone was so focused on the cute little faces and how majestic these white sharks are that they didn’t think about what they were doing in changing the conditions that radically that quickly. No plan at all. So now, when it’s a kid that gets eaten, no one’s gonna care about conservancy anymore. And that’s a no win... so before you get angry with me - I’m not against he sharks or the seals - just pissed that instead of reasonable minds making sound judgements it’s a bunch of snowflake liberals doing dumb shit without thought of consequence until it hits them in the face. And don’t forget... the only other thing that eats seals but also eats white sharks? Orcas. And like the white sharks coming to a food rich environment, so will they. And you don’t want that for any reason what so ever.
cape cod's always been a haven for gw's.happy I don't live there,iv seen all those seals u know theres going to be some big fish around.i just saw Montauk is now a new haven for great whites lol.thats pretty close.if I had a gw encounter id probably never go back in the water.i just look at places like cali, south Africa, australia where theres a hundred ppl in the water and its still rare for shark attacks.bull sharks are the only ones we really have to worry about on the eastcoast.theres not much to eat on our shores lol
They just had another massive white kill and eat a seal 30’ off the beach in about 6’ of water - video is all over news. One day after Truro attack.
We have become a new hub for white sharks in the northeast. LI, NJ and Ri along with great white central MA. The seal population is massive now and the whites are breeding and dropping pups around here. Used to be only around Montauk.
i dont encounter any here in RI. in fact swam two miles yesterday afternoon here in jamestown. never been a shark sighting in jamestown and never been an attack either. last attack in RI was early 1900 s. cape cod where the seals are I would never do a two mile swim. i spearfish and am on the water at least 4 days per week and never seen or heard about a shark in RI. a baby was caught a mile offshore this summer but thats about it. were safe here in RI. cape cod, NH, and probably maine better seal populations.
By 'changing the conditions radically that quickly' you mean passing a law in 1972, almost 50 years ago? Baby whites are mostly down in NY bight but look out - some meddling snowflake scientist probably did that research, not a reasonable mind who's afraid of being attacked by orca in the wild. LOL https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/07/180718131112.htm Don't swim/surf at a beach where there are seals and you'll probably be fine. It's that simple.
taking my chances in the water with that new new KFC goo goo https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/au...t-launches-kfc-scented-surf-wax-ng-b88930393z
No, by passing a law with no comin sense planning whatsoever because trees need hugs and morons are easily distracted. And re invigorating a predator/prey relationship centered around a major tourism/surfing/fishing area because seals are cute was the reason why people are now being attacked as potential prey items, period. But hey, who cares right? they did the same thing here with deer and then coyotes and that went real smooth too... but I also did say that the man was asking for it by being a dope.
That’s cool, just try and b aware - just read the been surfing thread and you’ll see in NJ there’s been bump and runs, and even a perported fisticuffs with mr. grey... could be shenanigans but I don’t see the people who posted it to be that way. Meanwhile, bigguns are wacking seals in 4’ of water thirty feet offshore in the middle of tourons. Makes for some fun video though haha
Mr B you may be on to something. The major GW breeding ground in US has been the Farralon Islands off San Francisco - another breeding ground for liberals.
Hmmmmmmm.... I may start chumming the waters down southern way with fresh seal pups with Elizabeth Warren stickers on the pieces and see if we can’T engineer a sharknado for liberals
